This may be a bit of a rant. I go to college full-time (I have a part-time job on campus), and as such, fall under the auspices of the health insurance policy afforded a full-time student. I recently found out that I do not qualify as a full-time student (due to taking only 10 credits because thats all I need to graduate), and as a result do not qualify for health insurance.

Shouldn't there be a system in place that should set off a flag to tell me "hey, you're not taking enough credits to qualify as a full-time student so your health insurance will lapse"? Any thoughts on this matter? I only found out because my dentist vaguely mentioned it because they've always had to find out my school status each time I've had to file a claim.

As far as I am aware, 12 credit hours is the standard full-time student status for any university in the United States. If you fall below 12, you are a part-time student and it will fuck with your insurance. Look into picking up an extra class, or perhaps two 1-credit hour classes.

Yeah - I ended up adding a 3 credit independent study to get above the 12 credit mark. Its for a project I'm already working on actually, so its not really any extra work. I'm just confused as to why it didn't get caught in the system somewhere that it may not be what I intended to do. Oh well.

This is why my last semester I took 6 credits of scuba diving and 4 credits of independent study.

It was 9hrs when I was a senior and I took just 3 classes. 2 of which were internships and one was Con. Law. Ahhhhh those were good times. I miss them so much. I should have just graduated in 3.5yrs but looking back am glad I just used that last semester to party myself into oblivion enough that it got out of my system. :D
