View Full Version : Recruiting, Goats, and Drama! Oh my!

Thought i'd post and see where this goes, if it goes somewhere it should make for a wonderful read.

I have heard rumors about foul Recruitment tactics among a fairly desperate guild, rumors about tough competition for some goats, and rumors of disputes and anger between the 4 involved guilds. Littered with many many trains and guild B jumping after guild A clears.

Two seperate issues, our old favorite guilds.

Flame on!

A high-end guild recently recruited 11 of our current and recently departed members using, among other things, direct unsolicited tells. While some of them were "significant participatory raiders," that number also included recruits and some very casual members. [At least one of the 11 had already quit the guild for "drama" reasons anyway.]

VA's an odd guild in that we have *checks server* 166 people that attended a raid in the last two weeks; but very few of them participate in more than, say, 20% of all of our raids (we support a lot of casual players). So, losing 11 people of a 300-person roster hasn't left us high and dry. It's about par for the course recently with WoW/EQ2, etc.

Sorry if that's not enough NAG drama for you, but facts are we're not thrilled with their recruitment tactics; but we hope everyone who left finds the grass greener. Everquest is a game after all. Enjoy it!

I tried folks, seems the goat dispute has been settled with reasonable adult behaviour between the two involved guilds, and one party is forgiving of the other in the other issue.

So no go on the drama.

*Watches the thread fall to oblivion*

For the record, we have no idea what the four-way-goat business is. We just had some recruitment issues.

No comment on the goats, but for the most part something is worked out that everyone can live with. :)

As for losing folks to WoW/EQ2, we're actually seeing some folks that are interested in coming back (which I am glad to see).

Come back to the darkside! ;)

Nothing honey, that's as pathetic as pathetic gets.

Ibudin
01-21-2005, 02:07 PM
Well its a fact of life in EQ and nothing new either. All guilds do it to one another not necessarily a guild recruiter but members telling other members of guilds .."Hey why not come and play with us, you will get better loot and less drama here!" EW was the best at it...oh wizards and clerics would flock to greener pastures.

Palimax Sceleris
01-21-2005, 03:43 PM
We don't object to any of our members who'd feel they'd be happier elsewhere leaving us to persue greener pastures; but we think "cold calling" our members is a bit... ...ugly.

Being a mid-power guild, we've always lost members to the top guilds on the server. A lot of people get a "taste" of heavy-raiding from us, and find they prefer it to our mix of family and "hardcore."

Also, we have 300 zerglings, er, members, because we know that a lot of our members raid once or twice a month, and a good portion of those 300 members are made up of real-life family and friends that our guild will always have room for.

Back on topic to flames.

RiP has elite strats for figuring out encounters. We'll call it the "here, you go app to guild XXX, get elite infoz, report elite infoz to us, then we'll let you back in" strat. Only further proving you CAN teach a monkey to do just about anything.

Seems to work well with figuring out PoTime and Uqua ! ^_^

Though I must say, IvM made Uqua about 5 thousand times harder than it had to be. The combination of stupidity that was shared between the members made me numb. I felt more stupidererer after each raid watching the morons run around. (or, in IvM's warriors case... standing around facing the wall instead of attacking mobs... go go elite retard strats !)

FLAME ON!

You seem exceptionally bitter that we didn't re-admit you, especially considering you're talking about Seratonin, who is stoned out of his mind 24/7 and effectively quit playing about 9 months ago.

I'm so proud to know I can still piss in Kraka's cheerios after his guild is fucking dead, and I don't even play eq anymore. Also, it's funny how you act like it was RiP's idea for me to app to EW, when I was coming from IvM.

Hahhahahahahahah...that's funny...Deien. Guy jumped ship, hated IVM, begged to come back...got voted back in...then promptly quit the game. Not RiP's best moment bringing him back, but the guy was hardly a strat spy.

Don't you have some asslings to slaugher krakah? :)

The best part about Krakah's post is how Seratonin couldn't even get to Yxtta by the time he left EW and he was supposed to spoil Uqua for RiP even though they hadn't killed Quarm yet =p

Ibudin
01-26-2005, 12:27 PM
Or better yet Ailyndar coming from EW to SOT and leading PoT raids! That was fun although even with the strats still needed the geared players to actually implement the strats. The zek brothers ruled our roost for months.

I also remember nice Crovax post that made its way around town...good times:p

Not bitter. Just sort of disappointed that I worked really hard for a guild that let itself turn into shit with members like Macchius. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate RiP, I wore the tag with pride while I was a member. I still have the VT items I earned equipped, I wear those with pride. I do however dislike many of its members, policies, rule bending, and other things... which is why I wouldn't put up with peoples stupid shit the second time around. Even AFTER I had pissed off nearly everyone, I STILL worked my ass off. Not to get into the guild, but because that's what I do. I work hard. Nobody can say otherwise.

More ranting to come~ Class starting !

Sweet. I did, though. (I should have used past tense for wear... wore.. I suppose.. as I don't play anymore)

Nothing wrong with having a sense of pride of accomplishing what we did, when we did it. VT clears until 4am were the shit ^_^

And again, don't flag me as an Anti-RiP asshole... an asshole I may be, but I still have much respect for some of its members.

And!! spill the beans on the Macchius deguild :p

Oh, and as for IvM. Don't feel too bad about them stealing your members. Two of their tanks apped to another guild in the past couple days, and while one returned to IvM (Hi Cary!), it's only because she got completely rejected for being such a fucking twat. (Makes ya feel good, huh IvM?)

Better watch the IvM bashing though! Never know when you will invoke the wrath of the all powerful DEECEE!

I want to advise you as a professional courtesy to refrain from bad practices towards the members of Invictus Maneo in the future as this would be detrimental to your account.

Thank you for your time.

So who wins the award for being the biggest crybaby/dramaqueen? It's been my experience that the people that complain the most, complain cause they A. have no clue of what they are bitching about. B. Think they have a clue but have a distorted interpretation due to reading comprehension. C. Just like to stir shit up and tear guilds apart. Just stop crying/whining/complaining and play the game. Chances are, you won't save the world with your belly aching.

Had them in CB-XA-SoT-EW-----IvM...?

I don't think that complaining a lot necessitates being a drama queen. What you are implying is that guild leadership can never be wrong and always picks the correct path.

I don't think that complaining a lot necessitates being a drama queen. What you are implying is that guild leadership can never be wrong and always picks the correct path.

No what I'm saying is "Complaining alot" makes you a pain in the ass. Being a known pain in the ass "complainer" loses you alot of credibility. Instead of "Complaining alot" choose your battles, or just shut up and play....or as I like to say "Shut up and color". Chances are, all the complaining you do will just wind up causing "Drama" and dividing the guild. Guilds aren't perfect, never are. You think you have better ways of doing things then create a guild, and stop putting the guild you are in, whatever guild that may be, under such a microscope....Or join a new guild, with new problems.

This is not directed at anyone in particular, I just quote you Siludorf cause you are debating.

Yes - Krakur

Like I said, I *CAN* make one hell of a shit storm, in most cases, I deal with it like an adult. But sometimes when you're dealing with an idiot of Macchius Magnitude, things need to be dealt with in a different manner. I don't complain just for the sake of doing it, unless it's to Immort.

I'm just not a person that'll put on a happy face and keep quiet when something pisses me off, regardless of who it is or my status in a guild. I'm a recruit? So what - I'll still tell you what you're doing is fucking stupid, even if you are a full member. People who show me respect get the same in return.

Oh, there's no need to be sneaky in asking me. Long story short is this.

IvM needed some more members to do some raids, and approached us with a mass-invite offer (for qualifying members).
We countered with a mutual aid offer.
Quite literally during those discussions they began recruiting a number of our members by direct tells.
IvM successfully recruited a number of our members - eventually 20
It is my understanding that many of those 20 have either:

Since left IvM
Returned to VA
Are still in IvM but don't meet their normal recruiting requirements for level/AA or meet their raiding minimums.

So, since I feel I got a little Pearl Harbored with the direct recruiting during discussion of aid, and since I'm a bit of a jerk, I wanted to know how well it worked out for them.

I won't debate the means by which IvM recruited people. It's a dog eat dog world in EverQuest to many people, and I expect that people will do things in a way I wouldn't. So, you won't see me getting all butt-hurt that they recruited people that way. But you can't blame me for being a little smug now.

20 players and not a single name and this thread has drama potential. The names aren't too important, honestly, neither is a breakdown of if they were long-time VA members, or newer VA members who came from SoH. For us, it's simple. We've never begrudged people for wanting to see if there were greener pastures for them, and we're still here, providing a place for any of them (who didn't burn bridges on the way out) to return to.
