He voted against the current bailout but boy was he quick to vote yes on the TARP funds that directly benefited the bank his wife works for.

If you don't want to read it I'll sum it up...oddly enough she was hired as a managing director just last year in 2008

So depressing...

Btw Paul Begalla had a good idea... If you voted against the Bailout, then refuse to take the money for your state.

I wonder how many of those hypocrites will refuse the money. My guess is big fat 0

Well, as sharp and pithy as that is, it's hogwash. If everyone else is doing it, you'd be stupid to put yourself at an artificially imposed disadvantage.

A minority abstaining from the inflation tax money (err, stimulus) won't make any significant difference in the damage it's going to do to us in the long term.

If they voted no because they were going by the information that you present here I would say they are casting an honest vote. But we know they are voting no simply because they are taking a calculated risk that it will fail and they can say..."I told you so".

Both parties play this game constantly. That is politics in a nut shell.

But really Rick Perry isnt doing as great a job as Gov on some of these money perks. Whether it is taking advantage of them or letting Texas lose out on them.

I disagree with you. I happen to know my home town Congressman as someone I didn't just grow up with but someone who is also family. I believe in what he says and so does my hometown. He did not vote no just to say I told you so. He didn't agree with the bill.

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Heath Shuler today released the following
statement after voting against the conference report on H.R. 1, the economic stimulus
package.
“We all agree that action must be taken to stimulate our economy. However, I continue to
disagree with the course of action laid out in this bill. Its focus should have been solely
on programs that offer an immediate economic impact -- like extending unemployment
insurance -- and investments in our nation’s infrastructure, which have a rate of return of
6 to 1. While this final bill does provide some funding in those areas I am remarkably
concerned that only 3.4% of the funding in this package goes toward repairing our
country’s highways and bridges. More specifically, across the country there are currently
transportation projects totaling $64 billion that could be under contract within 180 days,
yet this bill provides only $27.5 billion for those projects.”
“In the end, this bill simply contained entirely too much spending in areas that will not
provide an immediate stimulative effect to our nation’s economy. With our national debt
approaching $11 trillion we should not be borrowing hundreds of billions of dollars
without careful and deliberate consideration.”
“Additionally, I am remarkably disappointed in House leadership for bringing a bill of
this size and magnitude up for a vote without giving members adequate time to review it
fully. We must have a greater respect for this institution and for its Members.”

Background
Shuler introduced legislation in the 110 th Congress, H.Res, 484, to require all legislation
be posted on the Internet for 48 hours before it is considered on the House floor.

Was never impressed with Heath Schuler as a football player but he definately makes a clear case for why we shouldn't have had our politicians put together this steaming pile of shit.

I was referring to the Republicans in congress. Your cousin from what I've seen is a rarity in congress...he has principles. I don't agree with his no vote but I also think he presents a very good and accurate argument. I think the bill is a start.

My post was directed against retarded reasoning like this:

Word is Gindal from Louisiana is... Good on him too if he does. This bailout is nothing for then leftist economic terrorism.

This type of reasoning shows a complete ignorance of what socialism is. Basically the whole argument of tax breaks for business creates jobs is at the least foolish...you want businesses to create jobs they need to have business along with a stable economy. The other part is that health care needs to be reigned in. It is the biggest killer of business profitability, the current system doesn't work and will never work.

Cantor sounds real sincere in his comments; can anyone find any similar speechifying by him with regard to Bush pushing his stimulus through for the banks? How was his level of opposition then?
