Hate to break it to you, but the admin/mod reps are legit.

I seem to remember you guys starting off leagues ahead of everyone else. I also remember someone named Takashi coming in and posting like four times, somehow attaining a reputation of around 70 or so. I don't think the lack of "faith" in this system's validity is that unwarranted.

Takashi is Rybit on another account (I'm pretty sure he explained that). When he made the new account, he copied his rep score from the Rybit account at that time. I actually checked that because Cados brought it to my attention the first time "Takashi" posted and had a high rep score. At that time "Rybit" and "Takashi" had the same rep exactly. Nothing to see here.
And yes, we all started at 0. No one started "leagues" ahead of anyone.
edit: It's not like you should care, Gekob... Not like you're gonna be using the rep system for much longer anyway.

Takashi is my board account outside of my administrative responsibilities. I just set the starting value to the same value as my administrator account at the time I created it. And to spy on you unsuspecting users. Sanchek just blew my cover :D

I started at 10 =/
If the other started at 70... I WANT MY FRIGGING 60 REP POINTS BITCHES!

Most of you started at 50. No one started at 0, all regular users start at 10.
Sanchek

We started at 0, before I changed it so that everyone started at 10 instead of 0 (to give a buffer between where you start and when your reps don't count anymore).
No one started at 50, ever. I have no clue what would even make anyone think that, much less somehow believe it were true.

It might have something to do with all the red and yellow names having +50 rep the day that the boards were opened to the public. So unless you guys circlejerked around a bit between private opening and public opening...you started at 50.

Right, that's why Selwen's rep even now is only up to 27, Edeina's is 9, and Balt's is still the default 10.
But you know... I don't really need much proof to know you're talking out your ass, because reputation numbers weren't displayed for months after the board opened, until I hacked the postbit template to include it. Yet, you somehow know everyone started with x amount? Uh, right.

I'm curious if you guys realize how fucking stupid you sound fighting about something that does'nt mean shit.

I meant when the reputation was open to the public, not when the boards were.

11-01-2004, 10:57 AM
Wow, so after months of getting reputation hits, we had higher than the starting values. WE'RE SO BUSTED!
Rigin, you're right the rep scores are completely meaningless. I don't care if mine's 0 or 1000. What I do care about is people alleging a completely unfounded rumor about the integrity of the staff, when it's based on someone flat out lying about the facts. That is all.

Maybe it's community backlash because you guys have consistantly been douchebags?

If by "community", you mean about 10 out of 700 people.

Ignore him San, give him not the strength in numbers his hacked reputation score would indicate.

Here's a ponderable....
Why do the mods even need or have reps? I mean honestly who cares about your rep? You guys can see who left rep and you can doctor it right? In my opinion that's a flawed system from the start and makes me not even care about the red and yellow names' rep score. But that's just me.
Another ponderable....
If you didn't have it then others wouldn't be envious or think that you all were scamming b/c it's so high.
A fair system would be one of the 2:
1. Mods should not be allowed to give or receive rep if they can see/doctor/change everyone's rep.
2. Mods should not be allowed to see/doctor/change rep, if they wish to receive and give rep pts.

Mods can't doctor individual rep hits or delete them.
Maybe you don't realize it, but we aren't the only people who can see who left them rep hits... Anyone with more than 950 non-sandbox posts can do that.
I'm not sure if I understand the logic behind any of that anyway... What could seeing rep hits possibly have to do with leaving comments about someone's post? Seems unrelated to me.

Maybe it's community backlash because you guys have consistantly been douchebags?I take offense at that statement, Talid. We are offering you a service, for free might I add. All of us have various responsibilities. I provide the hosting and server maintenance and offer you a service that requires no advertisements, no pop-ups, no required fundraising drives, no strings attached. Rarely do I ever, ever involve myself in moderating or mediating unless the staff has asked me to help them. Kivorn is responsible for keeping the administration together. Sanchek administrates the boards, handles support tickets, and ensures that the Acceptable Use Policy is enforced. Our moderators--Vhex, Selwen, and Thormir--ensure that the boards are in control. I hope you apologize for calling us "douchebags" but if this the way you treat me for offering you free service and hosting, I will keep that in mind.

Gee, Rybit. I'm sorry I called you a douchebag, because that simply is not the case. I don't believe Sanchek is a douchebag, nor Kivorn. I've seen Thormir's picture and I think he would probably run me down with his motorcycle if he really thought I believed he was a douchebag, and I don't think Selwen is a douchebag either. Vhex is, in my opinion, a douchebag, but that's for a lot of other reasons.
Maybe I should have rephrased what I said, but since it has been quoted now, there is no point
"Maybe it's community backlash because you guys have consistantly been douchebags"
should read
"Maybe it is community backlash because your moderation decisions and how you act upon those decisions are quite douchebaggish"
make more sense?

Mods can't doctor individual rep hits or delete them. really? you mean someone can go from +10 rep to some ungodly number like -500,000 without mod help? Holy cow I didn't know we had that many subscribers I thought as Rybit pointed out earlier it was 700.
Maybe you don't realize it, but we aren't the only people who can see who left them rep hits... Anyone with more than 950 non-sandbox posts can do that.
No, I really thought you could manipulate rep and yes I knew about the being able to see rep with 950 posts.
I'm not sure if I understand the logic behind any of that anyway... What could seeing rep hits possibly have to do with leaving comments about someone's post? Seems unrelated to me.
It was merely a suggestion ******** and you should take it as so not as a smartass comment but an idea. And the "logic" was based off of my perception whether wrong or right that you (mods) can manipulate rep pts. If you can't manipulate rep pts can you explain how reps can go negative in a short period of time?
Yes, I know this service is free and I appreciate it but at some point those in charge should listen. I was trying to offer a suggestion instead of whine, bitch and moan. Maybe the solution is not allowing rep altogether.
Sanchek
11-01-2004, 01:36 PM
Can't doctor individual hits. Can change a user's reputation level.
I still don't get why being able to see reputation relates to anything. You didn't answer that.

11-01-2004, 01:49 PM
Being able to see was meant to be lumped in with being able to change it and my comments were directed more towards the being able to edit it. I could care less if you can see my hits. But, until now I thought that you could edit them.
But now more than ever I think the system is bunk :(
I give up and no more suggestions will come from me, you guys are always right about everything end of story...it's your board afterall. I realize that if I wish to continue coming here to post or read I must accept this.
Sanchek
11-01-2004, 02:00 PM
I still don't understand.
No mod has ever modified one of their own rep hits, ever. So, how does that make the system somehow bunk now? Because we have to play by the same rules everyone else does, that makes the system worse?
I'm trying to understand what you're saying here, but I'm not getting it. Clarify what you're saying, if you have a suggestion to make based on what you know about the system now.

Rep. system is retarded to begin with. Watching you pretend not to care about it after 4 pages of posts is sad. Funny as hell, but sad.
I would say that the only reps. that are indicative of anyhting are negative one. I mean they at least show one's ability to not follow the rest of the lemmings off the cliff.
