View Full Version : Reviving my EQ1 account?
Skelz
04-10-2008, 07:46 AM
back in maybe 2004 I sold my account and lost the contact info to the person who had it, I just checked and the account has not been played since 2005. Now is there a way I can get it back, maybe say it was hacked or something? becouse there is no way I'd level up to 61 again in EQ, no chance in hell of that. I tried to find the support e-mail on station site but you have to have a log-in just to get the e-mail address.

You could level up to 61 in a couple weeks.

you got to be kidding me, did they change the exp in EQ1 ? I remember the days of "hell" levels and whatnot.

Skelz find my post about my return to EQ, in 6 weeks i just hit level 72. its a LOT easier to level they added Hot Zones which for every 5 levels have UBER xp.

Oipunx, what did I do/not do to you bro?
Greystone, thanks for the reply. And I do remember that name. Did we ever guild together?

I would not go through the hassle of getting your account back. You'd have to buy the SoF expansion anyhow, which includes everything before it for your old account. If you bought a new account, it would cost you the same 40 bucks to buy sof, you'd have every expansion, and a free month to play.
Any gear you had from 2004 is way outdated, unless you had a fungi tunic to twink a new toon with (which would probably be gone if the account has been inactive since 2005 anyhow).
Seriously though, since you left at level 61, you won't gain much benefit from said account with whatever gear was on the character that long ago. Just start over and enjoy your first month to see if eq still 'does it' for you.
If you sold your account and then claim it was 'hacked' to get it back, you are then nothing but a thief.

I'm just getting bored with WoW, all you do now is "daily" quest and the only fun is PvP, which all you do is bitch about how OP other classes are. I might just try out age of conan when it comes out.
But I just thought it would be fun to revive Skelz for a little while.

Hmmmm, I sold a guy a 61 Sportster chopper, some years back, I had half finished. He has not finished it, and it sits in his garage. I guess I could go take it back, since he is not using it.
Or, should I figure once I was paid for something, it was no longer mine to mess with anymore?

I was in basically the same situation man. I tried for 3 months to get in touch with the guy that bought my account, however I was unsuccessful. The account had not been played in over a year and a half. I contacted SoE customer support and did an account recovery on it to get my account re-activated.
About a month after I had been back playing I got a tell from the guy that had bought my account. He just wanted to know if it was "me" or someone else that might have hacked the account. He was completely cool with it, as he had not been playing the account at all because "paladins still tank better" :( lol. He filled me in on a lot of drama involving my toon; I must say it was kinda cool. It was like I stepped into a soap opera mid-season or somethin hehe. Since then I have grouped with the guy that bought my account quite a few times, and we have been working on some quests together. Im pretty lucky that he ended up being a really cool guy honestly and that he didnt trash my reputation too bad :D
As these other guys are telling you tho, xp is a billion times easier than it ever was when EQ was first introduced. You could level up quickly in no time. For instance, I know a person who just started a warrior last week before I went on vacation. I came back last night, and they were already 51 in 5 days of leveling. So worst case scenario if you wanted to come back and play, it wouldnt take you very long to get back up to speed. And also as stated, your gear that you had is going to be SHIT compared to the gear you can get these days. When I retired I was in full PoTime gear and the #5 tank server wide. I came back to being "average" at best. It kinda made me sick to my stomach heh, but it is what it is. Im working my way back up there, but I will never be a top tier tank again thats for sure. No more hardcore EQ for me, ever. :gclub

What server you playing on Immo?

What server you playing on Immo?
Over on The Nameless now. The guy that bought Immy moved him from A`Ro over to the Inny server. From there the server split from what I understand and his guild went to The Nameless.
I had planned to server move over to a server to play with Behemoth and a few of his RL buddies, but I re-activated and began playing before Behe did, and I've met a lot of really cool people over on The Nameless server, so I am probably going to be staying put at least for a while.
I must say tho, seeing the familiar faces around here does make me miss my old A`Ro home thats for sure. It would be really nice to group with you, and many others I've seen around here again.
I have to agree that it seems wrong to steal accounts back. I'm sure they guy was "cool" about it.... what else could he do? Maybe he was logging all those chats with you until he had enough info to go to the pretend EQ cops?
Bise had his named changed (so I was told) and I never heard about him again after Canonn quit playing.... That was so long ago.
If I had to do it again I would consider making a cleric for sure....but probably go with a rogue so I didn't have to do anything on raids.

...
Well if he wanted to he could contact SOE support and raise enough hell that they would just suspend the account indefinitely. That was how they used to handle situations like that in the past; however these days I am unsure how SOE would handle it. It seems EQ has become VERY lax in their policies. I see names now days in-game that would never fly before in the past, and my account recover/reactivation process went smoother than I ever anticipated. I think they just want active accounts paying and playing these days - they could care less.
The guy however was really cool about it, and he was just glad it was the original Immy and not some random fucktard_02. I even offered to pay him for what he bought the account for and he didn't want it. He said it was no biggie and he got more than his moneys worth out of my account, which Im sure he did. From what I understand he brought Immy over and started beating ass, launching his guild up into the top tier almost instantly. All he asked was for a few sentimental items out of the bank, which I did hand over to him immediately.
I agree with you on the morality of "stealing accounts back"; however I did take every measure I could to get in contact with the guy and to offer to pay him the money he paid for the account in full. So other than just starting from scratch there's really not much else in my power that I could have done from an ethical stand point. So I at least can sleep well at night with my conscious not giving me shit thinking I screwed someone over.
And in the end it seems ive got a cool guy with an army of bots to group with. So I guess my situation ended up turning out more than "ideal" :)

Thanks Immortalis for being cool. Like I said I am only going to attempt getting it back becouse the guy maybe used it 2 times, and has not been logged in 3-4 years.

Well if you offered to pay for it that makes it better, but what would you have done if he said "get the hell off my account!"?

When i quit back in '03, i technically gave / sold the account to a friend and said he could do whatever with it.
After he got his fill of it a year or so later he sold it and so on and so on.
I checked on my character and he was still in his PoTime crap so I doubt anyone used him for much afterwards, but I just got a new account. It was titanium at the time and was only $20 for all accounts up to present, so I could play on the progression server.
Really the only cool things I missed out on were the things you couldnt get anymore and the vet aa's. But guess it doesnt matter anymore, since I quit again.
" on the bright side, i got a tink mask on the progression server and retired my rogue with it on him still" I learned from my past mistake and just cancelled the accnt, because you never know if you going to come back, so I have an account ready.
Currently I am awaitng stargate worlds, it should be close to beta this summer.

I never sold any of my accounts... but thats probably because no one would have bought a 65 druid with crap gear and few AAs ; p
Also because I was playing other station games and didn't want to give up the whole account.

With Crystana, i had her in PoT armor and was geared halfway decent for the time. Never sold any of my toons so could go back and be an average cleric i think with all the stuff i missed if i wanted to. Was topped off at level 75 if i remember right. (think that was the level cap in 05?)
I actually miss my beastlord and bard more than anything tho. I REALLY hope they add Beastlords someday to EQ2...lol (Wishful thinking, but.....)

Aeby was still playing when I quit I believe.
I stopped playing in August of last year.
I basically quit after DHS fell apart. We were in the process of doing GoD progression.
Rhama quit awhile before that, went to Vanguard I believe. Basically after his house burned down and I played him thru PoP progression, he quit shortly after during beginning of GoD.

dont try to get your account data back, maybe the new owner is playing EQ2, you won't see that, and if a SOE employee gives you the account information because he thinks you are the original owner he may get into trouble after a while.....
Fandros
04-16-2008, 11:09 AM
Almost zero chance of that happening. All SoE cares about is that the account is being paid for.

You are absolutely right on that one bro. That became fairly obvious to me when re-activating my account, and also when running around in-game and looking at some of the names that are allowed to be active on characters. SOE's policies have become so lax, they just want money coming in and dont care how or by whom at this point.
Palarran
04-17-2008, 01:37 PM
With names I don't think it's the policies that have become lax so much as the enforcement. I don't think they actively police names anymore; they only change them when names come to their attention for other reasons.

Hehe, thanks. I was about average i think in clerics. Believe me, i've seen my share of clerics in mmo's who seem to barely know what to do.
I never really considered selling my toons tho. Guess i got too attached to them with the time i spent leveling them. All of 'em are still sitting there waiting to be reactivated.

Funny, I cant remember much of the stuff in PoP and only a fraction of Luclin. but i recall alot of the early stuff pretty well. will never forget Faydedar and remember well the day we Bylimet her leaf blower.
Scary i stood at the PC game section of my local freddies this last saturday staring at the "secrets of Faydwer" expansion set for about 20 min. twitching slightly. but i was a good little recovering addict. i went and bought Pirates of the C #3, Tesla's and Tom Petty's greatest hits instead.
