Dead at 83.

One of my favorite actors. He and his wife, Joanne, reminded me a lot of Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy; consummate professionals who loved their jobs, but preferred to be regular people when not 'working'. He led a great life off-screen, and made a lot of contributions in many different ways. He is one of the few that all these young actors should be looking to emulate.

Ari Ben Canaan, Judge Roy Bean, Butch Cassidy, Harry Figg, so many memorable performances and movies made better by his involvement.

Rest in Peace!

Wow, I didn't even know he was sick. What did he die of? And yes, indeed he was a fantastic actor :(

It really pisses me off, I see all these polls that ask which is your favorite Paul Newman flick. Not a single one of them lists Slapshot. For the record, that is my favorite Newman flick.

Agreed. I loved Slapshot. Road to Perdition is another one that doesnt get much mention.

Slapshot was great, but I could only recall the Hanson Brothers names (if that is even right) so did not mention.

My X loved Slapshot. In spite of that, it was a great movie. I also liked Cool Hand Luke. And he also had a good line of salad dressings. R.I.P. Paul.

But then again .... wasn't he in Color of Money with Cruise?

yeah but that was before Tommy went public with his whacky self.
