Just saw this. Wow. It's hard to imagine we'd be playing/have played a game quite like EQ without him and Dave Arneson. /salute

I miss the old days of DD, Wizards of the coast book games, car wars, axis and allies. Gave me many hours of enjoyment living in the hicks of Texas as a kid and looking forward to Gen Con every year at UT.

EQ was mindblowing when I was first introduced to it, I didnt have to hang out or go somewhere to find people to play with they were all online.

We all wouldn't have been brought together to discuss all the various issues we discuss on this board without Gary. We may all well have other outlets to discuss these things, but we as a community wouldn't have even gathered together without this guy. And I have to say, this board has generated TONS of entertainment for me over the years...

RIP Mr. Gygax, thank you for all the fun you've helped give me in my life. I've been playing D & D and games similar (and electronics game D & D helped to spawn) since I was twelve years old.

I've enjoyed the direct as well as the indirect works of Gary Gygax since 1978. I was given a boxed set of Tunnels and Trolls and was instantly won over.

My brother, stepbrother and I spent days upon weeks upon years playing with one incarnation or another of Mr Gygax's games.

Thank you and may you rest well.

Thanks Sixee for that great laugh, I bet he'd have said much the same...

It is always amazing to me to be able to take a step back and really consider the impact an individual can have on so many around the planet. This was a man who made a wonderful contribution to bringing people together in a way that politics and religion and race and such was irrelevant. He was huge!

Penny-Arcade had a fitting comic (http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2008/03/04).

Not sure if anyone else noticed, but the patch yesterday in WoW was dedicated to the memory of Gary, with a short paragraph in the patch notes.

In Memoriam: Gary Gygax

Blizzard Entertainment would like to dedicate the patch in memory of Gary Gygax. His work on D&D was an inspiration to us in many ways and helped spark our passion for creating games of our own. As avid D&D players and fellow game developers, we were all saddened by the news of his passing; we feel we’ve lost a true adventuring companion. Thanks for everything and farewell, Gary. You will be missed.

in case its not in EU

They should create an NPC dedicated to him in all MMORGPs.....
