Surprised that it has not been brought up here yet.
Barack Obama's grandmother has died today, one night before the election. I am pretty sad for him, to have lost both his mother and his grandmother to cancer.
Here are pictures of him in North Carolina giving a speech later today...

I feel badly that it had to happen before she could see him elected.
Maybe it's just me, but my eyes get all red and irritated whenever I cry.
I'm not saying he wasn't truly sad that his grandmother passed away, but since he's a politician, I am suspect of those tears caught on camera.

Judging by the video it seems pretty real if you pay attention to his posture, face, and the blinking near the end. And this is one of the few situations where I'll give anyone, even politicans, the benefit of the doubt.

See? These people ceem to be genuinely crying, and most have red, puffy eyes. But I'm probably an asshole for pointing THAT out too.....

No, for doubting someone would be crying over the loss of the woman who basically raised him. Would you have to fake tears if your mother died?
I feel badly for Obama that he lost his "rock" the day before potentially his greatest triumph. He said she probably wouldn't make it through the election, but I for one hoped that she would get to see his moment of glory.

I wouldn't have to fake tears, but I certainly would look like crap.

I'm not of any religion, but for the sake of this (and times in my life when loved ones weren't alive), I hope you are right.

People handle grief in different ways, and we're talking about politicians, who are often considered professional liars. Just because its cold doesn't mean he doesn't have at least a little of a point. You're driving the 'sixee is morally bankrupt and I'm outraged about it' thing into the ground.

At least I didn't say he scheduled her passing to give him a "bump" in the polls.
I'm sure Rush, Sean or whatever right-wing talk host of the day will be sure to twist it in such a fashion.

there is a BIG difference in people crying over being moved by a mans words/actions and losing one of your major maternal figures....you're an asshole for thinking its fake.

These people are not giving a speech, they are letting the tears flow, where as Obama is most likely fighting to keep them from pouring out.
I have cried before without having red eyes.

Yeah, since I was the initial person that brought it up and all
Hell, you all but called him an asshole too before I even commented on the thread, but it's I who is on some sort of crusade...

I expect to hear the spin somewhere in regards to that as well.
