Shel Dorf has passed, after spending over a year hospitalized due to complications from diabetes. He was 76.

When he was 37 back in 1970 he was able to gather a group of approximately 300 teenagers to a downtown San Diego hotel for the first Comic-Con!
In August, more than an estimated 125,000 attended the 40th convention.

The man loved comic books, and their creators and illustrators. His idea for Comic-Con was all about celebrating their contributions, and he most definitely had his impact on the culture. Dorf had pulled away from active involvement in the conventions, due to both it's growth in size and the increased involvement of Hollywood promoting anime and video games.
