I have been rollerblading since 1990 when Rollerblades first hit the main stream.

Back in the late 90's a friend and I would basically urban assult downtown, riding rails, going down stairs backwards, jumps, etc.

I am currently blading to work downtown everyday.

But this video just floors me!

Incredible ! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCCrpVB5bFc&eurl=http://www.videosift.com/video/Roller-Suit-in-Swiss-Alps)

Not only is this guy totally insane but he is also a genius. One false move and he is toast. I am fairly sure the camera man has a camera strapped on his helmet and is following the guy down the hill in a similar suit.

He passes the motorcycle at the end, those peoples jaw must have dropped.

Wow, I imagine stopping quickly must really suck.

Still looks nifty.

I use to rollerblade alot, and still do from time to time, that guy is very brave to go down that hill like that. I'll be scared sh#tless to be going down it standing up.. yet alone laying down.
All in all it was a great video, would love to see him in the next X Gmaes

After watching the video several times, I'm guessing that there's more than just a camera strapped to someone's helmet. The video is way too smooth for that. For the camera to be that smooth would require some type of gimbal mounted camera to attenuate the road vibrations. Even when the camera pans to follow in a curve looks almost like a remote controlled camera... maybe bumper mounted on another vehicle.

Technical issues aside...

That looks like it would be an adrenalin junkie's dream... 60 MPH or better... right down on the pavement... talk about a rush....

Did anyone else wonder how he was able to stop?

After completing this stunt, the gentleman checked his phone messages, saw the one from his doctor stating they had gotten the wrong results and he was actually going to be fine, whereby he promptly ruined the suit.

Seriously, this stunt had death wish written all over it. Great video tho'.

Nah. It could easily be a car mounted camera with stablization software in post or even in the camera. A lot of prosumer cameras have great stabilization software. Its a wide angle lense and they're probably at the back of the lense so there wouldn't be that much shaking.

I'd bet closer to 30 mph though instead of 60. The cars passing him were going faster than he was.

*edit* Notice the edit points. He can't go uphill, so he slowed down, stopped, and probably got in said vehicle to get driven to the top of the hills.

Exactly my point... that's what I meant when I said... maybe bumper mounted on another vehicle...

As far as speed, I was looking at the posts on the side of the road. They seemed to be whizzing by a little fast for 30 mph. But even 30 mph seems quite fast when you're that close to the road.

Well plus if you do any investigating about this guy you will see that he does in fact reach top speed of 60mph. This stuff is all over the web and given the slope of the Alps I can believe he's moving that fast. I'd like to see him do that down Sospel though what about you Anterak? :D

My thinking is that he has tested the suit out extensivly on progressivly steeper grades before trying out the alps run. He probably has studied that alps run extensivly and many test runs before trying it out full speed. Think of it as a luge run as opposed to just jumping on the slope and hoping for the best.

My friend and I were discussing the video and we both agreed that this guy probably has the same life expectancy as a base jumper.

I'm pretty sure he already tried. ;)

Very impressive video, and like Lokase said when you do this kind of performance you don't play dices.

In my 20's I used to roller skate as well, but my personal speed record is around 35 mph, and not on my tummy! :D
