I am not a "rush" fan by any means. But what he says has merit in this sense. For the longest time, the QB was a white position. It was actually done because the best athletes were not QB's but wideouts and runningbacks. Football has evolved over the years, and that is now the premier position. It is true that the media makes a bigger point of it. Look at all the hype about Vick, or Mcnabb, but when is the last time a black quarterback lead a team to a superbowl win ....Redskins ring a bell? (doug williams)

I'm not much of a Rush fan, but I actually agree with the guy. It's true, Donavan was being hyped up as the first real successful black quarterback in the NFL, and it just didn't really happen. How can anyone disagree with that? Just because the word "black" is in the statement doesn't mean it's racist.

McNabb is a stud at QB. It's not like he is tossing balls to Moss, Harrision, or Owens in Philly. He has average wideouts at best. Not only that, his running back core in Philly is shit. To say that he is only rated high because he is black is a joke and racist. He had an 86 qb rating last year which is great considering he is throwing those balls to James Thrash and Todd Pinkston. There are 25 other starting QB's last year that didn't reach that mark. Some of the names on that list are Garcia, Favre, and Brady. Hell, he was tied with Bledsoe in QB rating and Bledsoe is always named one of the best in the NFL. Numbers don't lie.

It was a stupid thing he said, but McNabb is overrated. I mean, if you want to go by QB rating...here's some current stats from ESPN.

McNabb is AT the bottom for 2003, hes #7 in 2002...thats good, but Trent Green (92.6) and Matt Hasselbeck (87.8 ) got almost no media coverage.

Now, this raises an entire different can of beans. I think that the media DOES overhype black QBs, but I dont see it as a bad thing. I imagine 20-30 years from now, white QBs will have a fraction of what they have right now. Colleges nowadays definitely focus on the running game...and having a QB who does more than hand it off gives teams some needed depth.

It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure that Jimmy the Greek got in trouble for making broad generalizations about all black athletes. That's exactly what racism is -- it may not have been deragatory per se, but it was a racist statement.

As for Rush, I'm hardly a fan of the guy, and I don't even know what he was doing on a sports show in the first place. But his statement was simply an assertion that other people were treating McNabb differently on account of race. Rush was talking about a single person, not all black people; and he wasn't claiming the types of "facts" that Jimmy the Greek did.

Plus, McNabb has been a little overrated in some ways since coming to Philly. I live here, and up until the beginning of this year he's gotten a lot more leeway than we usually give our local athletes. But he is also one of the better QBs in the league generally; the Eagles have practically no real running game and our receivers could do much better. I don't think QB ratings account for dropped balls, and I've seen a LOT of them.

McNabb is a VERY over rated quarter back :( Broneb you must be a philly fan.


Watching half of his passes go 5 feet above or below his receivers over and over again made me realize that last year. He isn't accurate, he's a hell of a rusher, but he can't throw for shit.

Jimmy the Greek on the other hand was VERY racist. He said something to the effect of the reason black athletes are so prominent is because they were bred by the white slave owners and its genetics making it good.
