I had the pleasure of meeting him 2 years ago. He was (is?) my favorite author, and I've read everything of his at least twice. His autobiography Travels was fantastic, and sitting down and talking with him for 20 minutes or so was one of the highlights of my professional life.
His last book (already written and in the editing phase) should come out early next year, it was scheduled to come out this December but was pushed back because of his cancer treatments, and will be finished without him.
Not many people can claim to have a Peabody, an Emmy, the Edgar Allen Poe Award, and a Dinosaur named after them. Although he was overtly cautious and damaging to the global warming cause of the past decade, his writing has spurred the imaginations of scientists in so many fields and numerous findings have and will be credited to his overactive imagination for some time to come. He will be missed.
