View Full Version : Scary thought that gets McCain in.

So a guy at work had this hypothetical that made me cry IRL.
Obama wins DNC, McCain obviously wins GOP nod.
Clinton runs for Pres. as independent.
Democratic party splits its votes between the two, McCain wins behind a united Republican front.

Heard that on the radio the other day also... It is a real possibility. :(

There's probably nothing the media would love more, but I doubt Hillary would stoop that low. It would be abject, political suicide for the Clinton family, whereas they still have some chance not to retreat in complete shame now.
Plus, she's all about winning. Even she would know there's no hope to win against McCain if she divides the party.

IMHO HIllbill is stumping for VP... IIRC VP must also be voted on by Delegates correct?

If that happens the Republican party deserves to win.

Hillary is not Joe Lieberman. This won't happen.

I absolutely think she would stoop that low - no doubt in my mind about it. There is only one reason she wouldnt run as an independent:
Even she would know there's no hope to win against McCain if she divides the party.
If there were any decent chance at all that she could win by doing this, she would.

She's a professional politician. Doing that she would forfeit any chance of keeping her Senate seat, not to mention she can't afford it. Lastly, she's too smart to try it.

I've heard lots of talk that Hillary might be in line for Senate majority leader. Hmm.

I still think this is why she is hanging on right now, to be able to show how much support (strength among the Party) she does have so that she can do some bargaining for Senate Majority Leader. I don't think she would want to take Attorney General or a Cabinet post; the Senate offers more longevity.

I can't see her as the VP either, that would be too below her grand thoughts of herself. Nor do I see her splitting the party and running as an Indy though my that would certianly be interesting though wouldn't it? Part of me almost wants that, part of me doesn't.
She's better off biding her time and trying again in another 8 years.

If McCain wins, I want to see him do it on his own Merit. I don't want to see Hillary gift it too him because she feels the need to destroy her party.

Or four, depending on what happens in November.

I won't count my chickens before they're hatched. John Kerry had 2004 won too.

Do you really think so? Much as I wanted to see Bush out, I never held a lot of hope for a change in leaders during an ongoing war.

Obama will win.
He is bringing out the youth vote in a way that has never been done before. McCain also does not have the appeal with the Evangelicals that Bush did. When the media starts to get into some of McCain's dirty yet quite public past (Keating Five, His disfigured wife that he left) he's going to fry.

Yeah. I think that's why Hillary is embarrassing herself with this long fight; she knows whoever gets the Democratic nomination will win.
McCain in 2000 could have been a contender. At this point, he's just being given his due run at it, in a year when no GOP candidate has a good chance.

Hillary running as an independent destroys her
Think the Democratic Party would allow her back in?
She would be stripped of her committee seats.
She would have to learn to run for office on her own dime.
She would never get the 2012 nomination if she ran in order to fuck over Obama.
Not gonna happen.
Nor is she going to be the VP.

I think that is more of Bill's wishful thinking than Hillary; I still think she wants Senate Majority Leader if she cannot be President.
She is too smart not to know the consequences of an Independent run.
Of course, she did not show her smarts when trying to explain how campaigns run into June, using her husband's and Bobby Kennedy's as examples.
