NEW YORK (AP) -- A Long Island school board has voted to end a high school football team's season amid allegations that some players were sexually assaulted by older teammates at a training camp.

The Bellmore-Merrick school board decided at a Wednesday night closed-door meeting to cancel all of the Mepham High School football team's games, Newsday reported in Thursday editions.

Three varsity players, ages 15, 16 and 17, allegedly sodomized three junior varsity players with a broomstick, pine cones and golf balls while other players watched, the newspaper reported.

The alleged assaults took place at Camp Wayne in Preston Park, Pennsylvania, where about 60 Mepham High School players and five coaches spent a week last month.

School officials and players have said the coaches did not know about the incidents until one of the victim's parents reported it to the school principal several days after the team had returned.

The school board found that many of the team's players violated the district's code of conduct by not reporting the alleged abuse, Newsday said.

No arrests have been made, and prosecutors and school officials have not commented on the specifics of the allegations.

Newsday said school board members and Thomas Caramore, the district's superintendent, declined further comment Wednesday night.

State police are investigating.

This school is about 3-4 miles away from me and it’s been the talk of the town just about every where you go. Now we talk about death penalty and god issues and killing people and stuff. Here is the question I ask of you after you read this.
Should these kids go to prison for their actions that they committed?
Now I hate Highschool football (that’s Soccer for the euros), So here is my 2cents. The Coach's shouldn't be held fully responsible for something that these kids did but come on. They are 16, 17 and 18 year old kids, They do know Right from Wrong, and if they say they don't they are lying. No music or computer game influenced them to do it, they did it by themselves and they should pay the consequences, I propose a 20year to life in prison. There is no excuse for their disgusting behavior.

Something should definitely be done, cause otherwise I don't think it would take much for one of the victims to snap and go on a murder spree if he saw the kids get away with it.

Put em in prison for a couple of years and put their name on the list like anyone else who has done similar things.

Um, fuck no. i only like college football. in my school football is the only sport that i cheer for the other team against my own school. The Coach's shouldn't be held fully responsible for something that these kids didquote]In my experience, very often I see the coaches encouraging the players, and any leader worth their salt knows exactly what's going on. You don't spend that much time with your students and not get to know them well enough to have an idea of what they're doing. A story like this doesn't surprise me at all - nearly every high school and college sports team I've come across does some form of hazing, school rules be damned. It's the usual mentality of giving the football teams free run.

IMHO - in addition to nailing the kids, they need to go after the adults responsible for watching them.

we use to put eggs and flour in freshman's hair, paint their face, at worst we would piss on the floor spit in and make them push a quater through it. it was all fun but no one ever every thought of playing with their asses.......

I can see stuff like that but you never do anything sexually to them. One of the kids that got the broomstick up the wazoo is still in the hospital and had to have surgery, bc he was constantly bleeding from the rectum. These kids didn't have and lube in their back pocket that they used while they did this.. it just up there and prob was moving all around in there creating scars not only up their asses but in their minds as well.

How can you hold the coaches fully responsible for this, They can't have their eyes on the kids at ALL TIMES. But before the seasons started the coach told the seniors in a long convo just not to fuck around and not do anything stupid while on the trip..The coaches were counting on the seniors to look out for the younger kids.

Now Mepham highschool will probally never have a good football team b/c every1 be scared of getting stuff stuck up their asses.. i don't blame them.

I think the 20 years to life is way too harsh. Honestly, what would be fair would to have those kids stick pine cones up the varsity guys asses then reverse hog tie them and go to town with some wiffle ball bats.

They should not be on trial for rape, because i doubt they did it for their own sexual pleasure, but rather just as an extreme bullying. To me, it's up to the victims to press charges, and if they do, the boys should get at least a couple of years for assault.

And just to explain further, what us English call football is what Americans call soccer. And what Americans call football, everone else calls American football.

I got more news from this guy i met last night whose son is actually on the Mepham Highschool football team. He said that the Seniors were bunked with the Freshman and Juniors and Soph's were together.

All the kids are threatening eachother that if they tell something bad will happen.. prob they gotta go get more pine combs /sigh

Played 16 seasons of Hockey including 2 years of Junior A for those who know what that is. Heh, one time we taped a freshmen in highschool to the bottom of a bench for like a 1/2 hour. This Swedish exchange student kept wanting to piss on him. That was a little too wierd so we backed him off. But to sexually assault someone like that is unexceptable and I DO know a few guys who need a cellie REAL bad if ya' dig.

The coaches need to do a hell of a lot more than talk to the kids before the trip. I don't know the particulars of the trip, but they should have had their eye on the kids so they weren't drinking and getting into trouble. The psychos who did this should be in Juvenile hall for rape and other assorted charges, but the coaches are responsible as well. How responsible could only be determined with more information. I find it hard to believe they coached didn't know anthing about what was going on. I would bet that kids were probably "hazed" in previous years, it just hadn't gotten out of hand like this.

While I agree that the coaches are at least partially responsible, some kids will do whatever they think they can get away with.

What kind if IDIOT puts the seniors and freshmen together? Frankly, that's asking for hazing incidents to happen.

I used to play in high school too (Linebacker / guard, depending on the situation - I played both ways beyotch!), and the worst thing I remember was application of Icyhot to hands and shit while people slept.

We need to bring back public hanging- this is JUST the kind of crime where a good hanging would fit the bill- well, any rape would, for that matter.
