Yikes, please don't let this come back...there was a semi-major initiative in the late (90's?) to remove any negative reference to the word black from the educational environment. No black holes, black eye (has to do with fightin'!), dark feelings, and other garbage like that. Among other things they wanted to ban Conrad's Heart of Darkness, which is ironic, since the book addresses racism and issues of colonialism, but after all it's far easier to ban something without having to actually read it first and realize it supports your damn position you ignorant punks! That said...there should not have been an apology, and please don't let this come back into style.

Seriously though, that is a good point and if we are to discuss that he was voted in we might want to look at the demographic he represents, who would have done the voting.
