Yes, it's terrible and these terrorists need to be dealt with, and Abbas has a great chance here to show his strength to his own people, but severing ties is perhaps the more evil of the two options for Sharon.

There's a rather popular cartoon here in Britain with Sharon in the kitchen cooking something in a frying pan, and when it gets out of control he panics, grabs a bottle of alcohol, and throws it on the fire. Failing that, he grabs a can of petrol and tries to douse the fire out. Never more truth in a sketch, IMO.
