Trying to improve my 'signal to noise' ratio for Faust, Marz and others :)
It's not 'us' that's not paying attention, it's you.
When the 'first father' is sending out these 'signals', it's time for you to pay attention.
Faust, I like your style, but you keep saying folks aren't 'paying attention.' To what? Back up what you state. Show links that contradict the cartoons you disliked. Saddam complied with the inspectors. I don't like him--He has committed atrocities against his countrymen and I'd pay for the bullet--I'd even pull the trigger at his execution--but that doesn't change the fact that Dubya went in with all his *stated* reasons, which all turned out to be lies and obfuscations. Mobile weapons manufactuing trucks--nope. Nuclear material--nope. Even the 'nuclear plans' turned out to be blueprints buried for 12 years. Chemical and bio weapons? Only the ones the US sold to him in the first place, and the shelf life on those things have long since expired. Launch an attack on US soil in 45 minutes? Not likely considering they coudn't even get a plane in the air during the invasion.
The quotation I liked the best was "The non-existant weapons of mass destruction will be used as a last ditched effort by SH to win the war." I heard it on CNN, Fox, and the other news outlets quoting 'whitehouse sources'. Well, "Mission Accomplished", according to Dubya (and that's a whole other kettle of fish), and yet, those non-existant WoMD are still that--non-existant. Rummy wanted more time and more inspectors--That sounds familiar, doesn't it? The US only gave Blix a few months, and yet after the war the US has had half a year with more people. Now the US is in a 'tough slog', according to Rummy. Well imagine my surprise.
Which part am I missing? What am I not paying attention to? Polled, When 70ish percent of the people in the US think that SH was resonsible or took an active part in 9/11, it isn't me that's not paying attention. When Dubya, Rummy, and anyone who speaks on behalf of the white house invariably puts 9/11, Iraq, and the 'war on terror' in the same paragraph, the inference is there, even though, after a flurry of accusations, finally Dubya and Co. acknowledged publicly "Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11". That said, still, to this day, they often still say 9/11 and Iraq in the same breath.
I love Americans. I live right across the border from y'all (so euro sucker punch does not apply ;) )and I work for an American owned company up here in Canada. It's your pResident that I have a problem with. I deal with Americans daily and they are well spoken, articulate people. Some of them dislike Dubya's policies as much as I. Is it 'American bashing' or 'Euro sucker punch' when it comes from Americans?
I'm paying attention. Are you?

Oh christ, here we go. THIS looks like a new debate.
Which part am I missing?
The part where you turned a joke thread into the SAME STUPID FUCKING POLITICAL BULLSHIT ALA THE AXIS OF EUROS.
Which part am I missing?
The part where you could have made a NEW thread, rather than ruining an existing one that had NOTHING to do with politics, but EVERYTHING to do with HUMOR.
Which part am I missing?
Reading the past FOUR OR FIVE MONTHS of the RL board. Its not like we didn't have the SAME FUCKING discussions over and over and over.
Which part am I missing?
Posting this shit in the RIGHT FUCKING FORUM.
I'm paying attention. Are you?
You must think driving while eating a doughnut, putting on makeup and yelling at your boyfriend on the celly is paying attention then.

Learn what Marz? That you can post as much as me?
Please state something. No rantings, no ravings, no slammings of fellow people here on the discussion boards...
Just state it.
You post as if you're angry. You make as if you're terribly out-of-joint about *something*. But you haven't actually stated anything yet, have you? You throw out terms like "Euro sucker punch" and the like, and we're suppose to take what from that? "You just don't fucking learn!" Learn what? You actually didn't state anything I'm suppose to learn.
Actually, you haven't made any point at all. Any point, that is, except your anger.
I apologize for being in the wrong channel--my fault. Done, fixed (thank you) and I'll tey to do better in teh future. I told Faust that I 'got it' i nteh other thread, meaning that I understood that I shouldn't discuss the inherent flaws with the joke in the joke thread. And I haven't posted there again. Okay then, I started a new thread, with a brand new point--Dubya's dad is now stating, albeit in a roundabout way, a problem with the policies of his son.
And yet somehow you obviously still have an unstated problem. So come out and state it.
Prove me wrong. Shouting at me doesn't really do that--it just shows, to me anyway, that you may be a 'hot head' with little to no substance--or using the parlance around here, you have a "high noise to signal ratio"

That this horse has been BEATEN TO A FINE DUST for the past months on the board.
Angry? No, I'm just annoyed at your ignorance.

K, it was a brand new topic in which I pointed out that George Sr. may have issues with his son. This is brand spankin' new info that has just come to light so why on earth would I dredge up an old thread?
Again you stated nothing. If I posted this in some old SuXors thread you'd still rant--"Why the hell are you dredging up an old thread!" So it's not where I posted that you really have a problem with, it's the content that you find objectionable. So again, stop with the excuses disguised as rants and deal with the issue. Please.
Or say, "I have nothing to contribute to this discussion." or "I don't wish to contribute to this discussion", and we both can go on our merry ways.

Setsuna, you do have to realize that you did indeed bring political debate into a thread that was largely not intended to be as such. It was a joke thread, as others have stated already, and frankly (speaking for most forum members here, I believe) we're sick and tired of having political discussion permeate every goddamn thread that hits this forum, whether serious or not.
This horse has been beaten into a fine dust
Yep. We've hashed and re-hashed pretty much everything there is to say about the current administration, its policies, what's right and what's wrong and in the end it all comes back to square one, with the same people on the same sides all talking about the same thing.
Just leave it alone for a while...I guarantee you in a few days someone will post a nice, juicy political debate thread for you to tear into, but for now, let's just relax, shall we?

Let it go Setsuna. You've seen what arguing against America does. It drove Ytrok who normally seemed like quite the nice respectable guy into a blinding rage that ended up making him immensly bitter. Taino has become a mockery of his former, admirable self, I liked him better when I thought of him as the die-hard roleplaying paladin. Halo has become a degenerate, incapable of putting together a reliable argument.
The Axis of Euro's has been crushed by the indomnable war machine of the American Posters. The only thing left is when Kassos opens his mouth and blatent stupidity just shimmers forth from the gaping hole in his head, balogtherogue which I think is some computer Ytrok set up in a seperate country just to continue posting anti-US propaganda, Kinu who...and let's face it...would rather kick the shit out of everyone in EQ then get into a huge political debate.
Oh, and Hartmut, but he'd have to put down the Scatman episode 27 hentai comic long enough to find some tabloid to post about how the US is trying to secretly take over the world by uses MIND BULLETS.
So please, step down. For your sake, and for my sake, because I'm the one that has to read through all these fucking posts to make sure people aren't breaking the rules.

Dear Setsuna,
In order to have an intelligent discussion the person who you try to have a discusion with must have some intelligence.
Unfortunatly most of the so called "indomnable war machine of the American Posters" are completely deprived of any intelligence. (I say most, there are exceptions, but I don't considder the intelligent Americans part of the "indomnable war machine of the American Posters".)
They don't have discussions on arguments, they argue with insults. The person that utters the best insult wins.
Any attempt to reason or argue with them is therefor completely useless.
Unless you wanne lower yourself to theire level.
Someone once said :
Never argue with a fool, people might not know the difference.
Do yourself a favor and don't try to argue with the "indomnable war machine of the American Posters", it's just foolish.

Trying to improve my 'signal to noise' ratio for Faust, Marz and others
Excellent. I applaud your willingness to not start it off with the typical "Hahaha" snidery (Is "snidery" a word, or did I just Don King that one up?) that generally attaches itself to these type discussions.
From the article:
------------------------------------------------------------
But the news from College Station, Texas, this week -- that the First Father, former President George H.W. Bush, has given his own most treasured award to Sen. Edward Kennedy -- is nearly as astonishing.
Incorrect already, and that's the what...second paragraph? Bush Sr. didn't give out the award, Bush Foundation Executive Director Roman Popadiuk did. I don't know what standards they go by, but I bet a dollar to a dog-turd (and you can hold the stakes in your mouth) that Bush Senior would not have personally selected Theodore "What Drowning Girl?" Kennedy for any award associated with him.
just about everybody close to Washington politics has known of the policy schism between father and son.
Ahh yes, the old "everybody knows this" routine. I didn't know it, and after reading this article, I still don't know it. Not saying it's not true, but so far, it's conjecture. No backing up with anything but "everybody knows".
But people around Father Bush, a coterie of traditional internationalist conservatives who protect him like a wolf mother does her cubs, would heatedly deny any family rift -- and nobody spoke publicly about it.
Wait. "...nobody spoke publicly about it...", yet "everybody knew". Which is it? (Still seeing a distinct lack of "So and so said..." too.)
but he has revealed the depth of his disagreement with his impetuously uninformed son.
Roman Popadiuk awarding Ted Kennedy with a Bush Sr. Namesake award equals Bush Sr. "revealing disagreement" to Jr.? That's news to me. I usually say to my kids, "Hey! What the hell were you thinking there, Champ!? You don't stick the cat in the freezer." Maybe that's just me, I'm a little more forward about things. Maybe the kids will listen to me more if I have some stranger award someone I don't care for a shiny badge to wear. That'll learn 'em!
The ideological rift between father and son has been growing ever since George W. began focusing on Iraq ...
Says who? Seriously, I've yet to see anything remotely suggesting it. Once again, I'm not saying it's not true, but what indications are there? Is this person seriously basing an entire article on ONE questionable citation of good deeds to Captain Chappaquiddick?
But while family friends say Father Bush has made his disagreements known to his son...
Who say? Family friends? What family friends? How did this particular person find out? That works as well as, "You see, your honor, the guy in the dark alley just TOLD me to hold this bag of weed for him..."
...is the fact that this President Bush has embarked upon a policy designed to counter, or even to wipe out, his father's entire political legacy. (Bold mine)
Well, I was just getting used to hearing "He's just picking up where daddy left off" and "He's finishing what Bush Sr. couldn't finish" as the mantra of the day...now it's a "fact" that he's trying to counter / wipe out the work of the last Republican president? Where did this become "fact", and what sense does it make?
...The son seems to have made posturing against his father's accomplishments...
This baby goes from fact to appearance in 1.8 sentences!
W has given *snipped for brevity* an almost proud rudeness and scorn for others.
That entire paragraph is what we call "opinion", and in discussions of this nature, it is generally considered "bad form" to utilize opinion to support "fact".
Meanwhile, the tension between these two men reveals itself daily.
Yet I've not heard the first thing about it, and a few paragraphs before it was supposedly only known to Washington insiders. How long did it take to write this article? Did Ms. Geyer start on this in 2001?
In the Bush Library announcement of the award to Teddy Kennedy, the spokesman praised the liberal senator ... (Bold mine)
That zany Penrod Thornton (Bush Foundation spokesman) and his praising antics!
PS - I am not making these names up. I am not that creative. Congratulations to the parents of "Penrod" and "Roman"!
------------------------------------------------------------
When the 'first father' is sending out these 'signals', it's time for you to pay attention.
I did manage to find this <a href="http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2003/10/05/bush_to_honor_sen_kennedy_boston_globe/" target=new>The former President Bush has sole discretion about who receives the award, said Penrod Thornton of the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation. </a>, but Penrod (God, that name makes me laugh) was not quoted here, and that's the only suggestion that Bush Sr. was implicated (for lack of a better term) in the selection process.
Irrespective of who made the selection (Faced with the lack of evidence, I still don't believe it was Bush Sr.), it's still not quite as telling as Ms. Georgie Anne Geyer seems to think. I'd have to say that one award to someone does not nearly stack up as "supreme" evidence of the sky falling at the Bush household.
Faust, I like your style,
Thank you.
but you keep saying folks aren't 'paying attention.'
Not really. I can only think of two times (besides aimed at my children) where I've said it in the last...ohhh, couple years, at least.
Show links that contradict the cartoons you disliked.
Well, that might be going a bit far. I can't show you links that prove the "Dogs playing poker" series are good "works of art", but damn...I like them.
Saddam complied with the inspectors.
I disagree. <a href="http://www.rferl.org/nca/features/2003/03/22032003142343.asp" target=new >"The missiles</a> cover the gamut of Baghdad's somewhat unorthodox ballistic arsenal. They vary from small Chinese-made Silkworm antiship missiles, fired from the desert against U.S. bases in northern Kuwait, to heavy Soviet-designed Scud missiles which have landed well south of Kuwait City." Scuds, against the rules, not disclosed. Non-compliance. That was found with just a quick search. I'm sure there's more.
Mobile weapons manufactuing trucks--nope.
Not from where I'm standing. <a href="http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/04/14/sprj.irq.labs/" target=new> U.S. troops have found 11 mobile laboratories buried south of Baghdad that are capable of biological and chemical uses...</a>
The quotation I liked the best was "The non-existant weapons of mass destruction will be used as a last ditched effort by SH to win the war."
Where was that quote? What context was it used in?
The US only gave Blix a few months...
2003-1993 > few months. Except for very large values of "few months", where "month" ~= "1 year". UN inspection and monitoring of weapons development have been supposed to have been going on since shortly after the original cease fire. (See: United Nations Security Council Resolution 687. Signed April 1991. On the 3rd, or 6th or somewhere around there.)
Polled...
Stop there. Silly wabbit, polls are for politicians. (Also, I've yet, in my 29 years yet to know ONE person that has talked to a pollster.) I'd say that poll was innacurate, or utilized bad measurement, analysis and collection techniques, etc. If you'd like, link that one too and I'll go see if it meets my standard for "suspect" or just plain "bullshit".
So they made the inference, and then said "Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11"...sounds like you've got a regular conspiracy there. Survey says: ILLUMINATI! *ding*
I love Americans.
I love Canadians! (My grandmother was one. I rekkin' she still is officially a Canuck, albeit doing so at room temperature.)
I'm paying attention. Are you?
I am, but I'm losing my ability to concentrate as I've got to go punch out a huge loaf! (I know, TMI, but...y'all are like family, so I felt like sharing.)
Off to "Heave a Havannah"!

My fucking god Taino. Do you cry yourself to sleep every night over the entire world not "understaning" you and your fake visionary, radical, "I'm going to make a difference", Blue Crush mentality? Don't drag Setsuna down to your level...that's really unkind. You started out being pretty rational (in a very loose sense of the word) and when people politely disagreed with you, you couldn't let it sit with "Well, I guess we just disagree on this one..." and merrily move along. Nooooo, you had to press the issue and keep pecking. Well, after a while of explaining shit over and over and over someone was liable to get tired of it and increase the heat a bit, and then you of course turn around and "kick it up a notch" (ThxEmeril) and then through enough back and forth cycles you've got folks ready to tie your tiny little bean-bag to a monster-truck and speed off into the sunset, dragging you along.
Soooo, it gets to the point where people just don't even want to bother. Why? Because you can't just say, "Hey, looks like we disagree on this one." Don't give me this, "ACH! I AM DER VICTEEEM" sob story. It's horseshit, and it's not becoming of you.
So far, Setsuna has been VERY even keeled, and it seems that in the long run, is certainly not going to agree with me, but the difference here is, I have no reason to be an asshole to him. We just disagree. For you to say to someone who is being pretty level-headed, "Hey! U R LIEK ME!" is...well, insulting.
VJ (Ytrok to the layman)...now HE was like you. Same story of started out normally, good discussions, but couldn't leave well enough alone and pretty soon it was flame, flame, flame and then SNAP, psychosis.
Listen up (and that's everyone willing to hear some sage advice), just because someone does not agree with you, does NOT equate to them calling you an asshole. Let them disagree, and just enjoy "being right, and obviously smarter than person x" if you don't see eye to eye. Then, just say, "We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one..." and enjoy. Constantly bashing "the president not tEH PEoPLE" gets really fucking old, and ends up putting you in the position you are (self-admittedly) in Taino...

If Taino, Ytrok and others feel like they are not getting a fair hearing from the American posters, I would suggest that it is because every single topic that might possibly include bashing of America (and some that really don't) finds the usual crew gleefully ripping into US policy, the president, social mores of the US and American foibles.
Taino has pointed out again and again that he doesn't hate Americans, he just dislikes the government of the US. I might believe that if I could find a single instance where he had something nice to say about America and/or Americans. The problem is I could not find such an instance and don't recall any. Consequently, most of the American posters have decided that Taino does indeed dislike Americans in general and take a hostile stance against his postings in response. It's human nature.
I personally don't mind people taking the anti-US or anti-Bush arguments up if they are interested in discussing the matter rationally. Even Taino does this on occasion. What does get on my nerves is when someone hijacks a thread that has nothing to do with American politics and uses it to throw a snide remark about US policy or the US President.

Well, to me it implies that continually bashing someone without recognizing their good points will generally get you nowhere in presenting your viewpoint. Obviously the fact that you bother to post means you feel your viewpoint is worth presenting. I would therefore recommend taking a step back and re-evaluating how you present yourself if you really want to be heard. Continually harping on only the negative will always get you a negative response in return.

You asume he is lieing about point A because he supports point B. Even though there is no proof of him lieing about point A. You just asume he lies because he supports point B.
I'm sorry Gulor but if you don't see the prejudice in that, then I really don't see any use in discussing this any further.
As for you're sugestion to continously tell Americans that they are great in order to be taken serious, well lets just agree to disagree on that one.
Yo Shew hows you're rubber allergy comming along?
Ah nm I don't wanne know.

I agree with Gulor and he sure has a point in his explenation about why people think I hate all US citizens. Gotta give him that credit, really.
I must also admit that I dislike many mericans on this forum with a passion. Those peopel that constantly insult me and that have a really radical idea about war, guns, bush blabla... those really piss me off very much, and I do personally dislike them. That may really not help either with "actually I dont dislike americans by default".
Maybe it helps when I say that I'm in a relation with an american woman, which means that I will visit the states for a few months or maybe even... years and I am actually looking forward to it. That's all the proof I can give yas at this moment ;)

Uhhh where did Gulor reccomend "to continously tell Americans that they are great in order to be taken serious"?
Or are you playing your standard word twisting games again?
OH NOS!11one!11 Some wanna be Bono dislikes us! Please go back to forcing yourself to be some type of fake ass "deviant" from normal society. You won't be missed.
I honestly think that taino does not hate ALL Americans.
It just seems that way because of his giddy enthuasism when starting the America vs * debate all over again.

Balogh,
There is a huge difference between "regularly" and "ever".
For whatever reason, I have never seen some posters say *anything* positive about Americans and/or the US while "regularly" posting extremely negative views about us. If you can't see where people would get the idea that such posters do indeed dislike Americans in general, then we do indeed have nothing further to discuss on the matter.
For the record, I don't really dislike very many of you on this board at all. Even those of you I argue with on a regular basis I consider worthwhile to talk to and would probably consider as potential friends if we were to meet in RL.
If I stop posting replies, that is when you should figure I have decided you are not worth talking to. There have been a few folks in the NAG board who fall in that category. You can tell who they are by my conspicuous absence on those threads where I would normally participate.
As far as Taino goes, he is going out of his way to reassure me that he does not dislike me for being American. I get the feeling he is serious about that, so I apologize for taking his views for granted in the past.
Carry on!

How could I miss this.
Please come to Southern California. I will introduce you to our gangs, and you can try to stop their trying to kill you for wearing the wrong colors with your nerf bat and non-violence lectures.
Also, I sincerely hope that you are not telling us that our opinions are "radical" and yours are not.

about why people think I hate all US citizens.
Call her up and say in your sweetest voice: "You assholes need get out of Iraq and stop fucking with the rest of the world. Who the hell do you think you are?"
Then compare and contrast her reactions to the reactions of people on this board.

I hear you here Gulor :)
I can understand why some people come to this conclusion.
I think one of the major reasons why you don't see people saying something possitive about Americans or any other country for that matter is IMO the setup of this forum and the way internet forums work in general.
There are not alot of posts that invite you to say something possitive about any country, nationality, etc.
Can you imagine a post in nag with the title "I love Americans" or something simular, well allthough I don't see it as impossible it's not really common practice.
What you do see alot is someone airing there greavance about something and with that setting a "negative" tone.
It's the same thing as in business, you tell a negative exprience to 10 people and a possitive to 1.
So no you won't see alot of people saying something possitive.
And well since the US is generally the topic of discussion it's only logical you're gonne hear alot of negative views.
One only sees the negative side of people and the things they don't like, that's why you cannot asume anything on these boards.
One should take each thread on its own merits and try to avoid going back into other threads and assumptions.

I've done that. Not with the same words, but I have had this kinda discussion with her aswell. She of course is not having tghe same opinion as I have, but she also dislikes Bush and his actions. That helps :P
I'll be in NC, most likely.

You really don't get it; you're just oblivious to your own actions.
Use the same words. That's what you did here. See how she reacts. Let us know.
