Feeling sentimental I checked out the old Ayonae.ro forums (can be found at pub142.ezboard.com/bayonaero for those interested), and it seems the earliest thread is from 7/8/01 18:23, Edeina's first test thread.
We've been around a while. Or well, "we", Ayonae.Ro.

Thanks for the +rep Squishie :) How's life?
"Returning to Ayonae.ro" or well, at least active poster status, reminds me what a plaethora of personalities I used to hang around with. I mean, it's easy to forget nicknames, personalities and the lives behind them when you move out of direct contact with them. I even remember having a long chat with Aracelt about it when I was exceedingly glum. I wonder how he's doing.

ya know Kivorn,
From what I remember my EQ experience the personalities that we had in EQ seems much more robust than the flatlinners I am around in WoW now days.

I think it's the pace of the game and voice chat.
In EQ you had all the time in the world to alt-tab, read a thread, post, whatever. There was so much downtime. In WoW, you're always moving, hitting buttons constantly, and have almost no downtime. What downtime you do have, you're probably bullshitting around in vent anyway.

I have to agree with you on that Sanchek that downtime I think did make a difference in maybe why WoW is different than EQ was. The downtime in the "old" EQ made it possible to chat and talk.
I must say with the changes in EQ had made the pace faster though, especially with /ooc regen. I usually only get to talk when we are waiting for mana (which is not that very often or long anymore if at all.). I find after raids and grouping and when I can sit in the guildhall is my time to talk. Voice chat is a nice addition to the game though and almost a must in some instances. :)

Been thinking about that a lot, Beelz.
I think what the above posters have said is partly the reason. You simply had more time to converse during any part of the game. Everything from camping levels in Cazic Thule to raiding ToV, or fuck it, killing Vulak. Vulak was what, 15 minutes of running back and forth with not much more than autoattack on for us steel swinging hippies.
But the community was also a lot more tightly knit. Even if we raided with 60 players we still knew each other if for no other reason than the fact that there just werent that many players at max level, compared to the rest of the game populace. In WoW, every retard and his cousin is already level 70, and got there long before all but a few of the skilled players, and there's so many players that remembering peoples' names is just impossible.
I think EQ personalities mattered because at max level, you were more unique, and eventually everyone got a chance at the proverbial 15 minutes of fame. Two years later, you still remembered their names from somewhere, even if it's "oh yeah he's a ranger right?" or similar.
ya know Kivorn,

Clearly I don't spend enough time rearranging raid groups. I'll rearrange them some more, just to create downtime for Starrla! :)

You retired Nekko? Playing any new MMO?

Cancelled all MMO accounts 2 months ago. Heard lots of good things about Vanguard and the upcoming Warhammer MMO, but I think I am back to single player versions of gaming and also branching off into first person shooters. Much easier to put down or take on a laptop on one of my many trips overseas. I got Supreme Commander as well recently. Its keeping my free time occupied. What little I get.
I miss EQ, but its level of complication and intricate raids really do demand unparallel commitment if you want to be competitive. Not for your own betterment but due to the fact that other people constantly demand it from you for theirs. Fun is not supposed to involve guilt!

Supreme Commander as a title? or a game?

Game. Its an RTS. Best comparison is Total Annihilation 2.0. Its by the same dev.

Supreme Commander is gooood. An intelligent game, for once, is a refreshing thing. I've only been playing it sporadically as I have two weeks off over Easter that I fully intend to spend sitting in my pants and playing it. Whether or not the Mrs will allow it is another thing, of course.
I miss the days when my entire life was spent sitting in my pants. Good ole EQ.

So if you don't spend your life sitting around in your pants, are you sitting around nakid or in a skirt?

Hi Lao Starla and Evol, and of course the wonderful Lady Treca.
I stopped playing a little over a year ago and other than a few occasions about 9 months ago I haven’t logged in since. Two or 3? Expansions later I doubt I will make a return to play catch up and meet a ton of new people. Miss the old friends and acquaintances. Thou.
I haven’t played any other games, have considered picking up a game for the x-box but I hate dusting, the only other game that has caught my attention I don’t even remember the name of they just sent out beta invites and once I learned you needed to learn the in game language to advance images of me walking around talking it made me shudder. I believe it was an OG eq designer game, made here in Austin.
Other than that I got married Jan of this year, no kids just an additional toy Doberman atm to add to the chaos of home life. Hope everyone is doing well.
And I vote Boxers as most comfortable sitting around attire, wife beater shirt for extra comfort Tal.. Thou Im sure a skirt would rank right up there J
