Good lord. It does show that the people at the funeral are better people then those protesters, since they were able to ignore them and didn't retaliate. (even though I know they wanted to)
I don't care who it was, you don't fuck with people's funerals like that.
When people say they hate christian extremists, these are the one's they're talking about. I get a Lewis Black-like reaction when I think about these people for too long.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse.
A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight...is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."
- John S. Mill -
On a personal level, I am thoroughly disgusted by Bush and his presidency and am very much against the war in Iraq. BUT, I am very much a supporter of the troops serving in that war, and feel a great sense of pride whenever I hear one being interviewed and talking about their sense of purpose and commitment to their fellow troops.
It is offensive that Fred and his family are allowed to breathe the same air as Cpl. French and her family.

Reverend Fred Phelps and his clan fisrt achieved notoriety several years ago for their godhatesfags.com website. They picketed the funeral of slain gay student Matthew Shepard and circulated leaflets thanking God for the Asian tsunami and 9/11. His granddaughter, Jael Phelps, unsuccessfully ran for Topeka City Council against the council's first openly gay member (to 202 votes out of about 3500). Phelps is extremely active when it comes to filing lawsuits and promoting anti-gay legislation, and travels around the midwest and the internet in order to present his case.
Jael has been interviewed on Scarborough Country, but otherwise the national media has (wisely) not paid them too close attention. Hopefully this incident won't change that fact. Giving air to these people serves no constructive purpose.

Sadly they have the same rights we do and are allowed to their free speech. I applaud the police cheif and fire dept though, that was classic.
Other than, what a bunch of nut jobs. I'm not a violent person but if this had happened at one of my family member's funerals I probably would be put in jail.
