Somebody please make her stop.

While if she were to be hit by a speeding bus, it wouldn't bother me.

To shut her up would go against the things her son fought and died for. It would go against the things I put my ass on the line for. So she cant rant and rave, and as long as it's a peaceful protest.

The Irony though is astounding, that here she is fighting against something her son supported (AFAIK) but, using the rights she has been given by the many men and women of which her son is part, that bought that right with their blood.

So to Ms. Sheehan: You're welcome, now please shut the fuck up

Ah, so it's the selected kind of democracy and freedom you folks have over there?
Say what you want, but not if we don't like it!

People can say what they want, but we reserve the right to tell them they're crackheads. It's all about freedom of speach. That includes the right to tell someone to stfu.

Very true. There are responsibilities that come with free speech.
While I am allowed by the freedom of speech, to yell Fire in a theater, if someone dies because I did that, and there was no fire, I am responsible for thier death(s).
She has the right to express herself in any way she wants to within the law. We also have the freedom of speech to tell her to take a hike as well.
Just because she has the right to protest the war, doesn't mean she should do it. Espically in the manner in which she has been, which, in my opinion, disgraces her son's memory.
I'd have more respect for her if she would protest it in a more dignified manner.
It's 1 thing to give your opinion when asked, it's something else to throw it in people's faces.

Heh, the only reason I ever know what Ms. Sheehan is up to is because conservatives froth so much about it here. A tad obsessed, methinks.

But this is what Freedom of Speech allows. And people of all creeds, relgions, and beliefs in this system do it every day whether they intend to or not. It's a gray area and what offends you may not offend others. My signature on other forums offends people. The way some people dress and act in public offends me.

The scenario you describe about a crowded theatre is classic "clear and present danger". How has her protests endangered people? What about her getting thrown out of the State of the Union address because of a tshirt? Was that endangering people?

The fact is you can't have freedom of speech, not really. At some point measures have to be in place to ensure the safety of the rest of the citizens. But what Tranzure says is dead on, she can protest but by Jolly Roger if I want to call her a nut bag, a cunt, a commie, or whatever else comes to mind I will because it's my right too. Just remember when you swore the oath (like many of us) we took it and wore the uniform to protect even the most idiotic psycho to speak their mind.

Now... just because we have Freedom of Speech and Religion blah blah does that mean that networks, advertising companies et al should use those mediums to preach their message and sling it in my face every time I turn around? I don't like Pepsi damnit I like Coke stop throwing it in my face! The choice I have is to just ignore it.

I'd have more respect for her if she would protest it in a more dignified manner, is what I wrote just before that.
It had to do with the manner in which she protests the war.
If someone, such as an interviewer asked her, "How do you feel about your son's death?" And she responded, " I feel my son died in vain, in a war that didn't need to be fought." I'd say ok, good for her for speaking her mind.
She goes out and throws it in people's faces her son died. Makes me wonder why she doesn't dig up his corpse and drag it all around to show to people as well.
Would that be protected under freedom of speech?

Thor,

Do I even have to start to list all the "liberal" slanted news sources that covered this story? To say that Sheehan is famous because of the conservative Froth is insane.... She is your poster-child.. not ours.

Thing is, you bitch and moan about how she has "handlers," how she's been manipulated and so on, when you should be thanking her handlers for how irrelevant they've made her. Also, I do think it to be news when she's arrested simply due to the shirt she wore. We've seen this sort of thing many times over the past few years, most notably at Bush's fake "town hall" meetings. That it happened to be Sheehan getting cuffed in that instance only made it slightly more notable.

Agree with ya on that, Thor.

And, the person elected to safeguard the rights of all Americans as provided under the Constitution and Bill of Rights has done more to squash those rights than any outside influence. I swear BinLaden must be chuckling every time he sees an article about the Patriot Act, or surveilance, or Bush's pet Homeland Security Department.

How many citizens are aware that an FBI agent can now walk into the post office I work at, write out a warrant on a piece of paper and demand someone's mail which he then can read to see if it contains anything related to the "terrorist investogation"? If I consult an attorney regarding this, I must provide the attorney's name to the FBI. The same with medical records. These were always presumed protected under privacy laws, but no more with the Patriot Act.

Just an example of what King Bush doth wrought.

If nothing else, Sheehan at least keeps people talking about Freedom of Speech and the Right To Protest, regardless of how marginalized she has made herself and any message she may have been trying to convey.

Cindy Sheehan has every right to protest peacefully as she has.

Just as much right as General William Odom has to write this article (http://www.niemanwatchdog.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=background.view&backgroundid=0078) on the comparison between Iraq and Vietnam.

The far right needs their boogie men (and women) to convince themselves that they arent as wacko as at least 1% of the rest of the population.

Far left needs thiers as well L2. It's part of being heavily polarized and needing an evil to hate.

As for Cindy Sheehan, well yes she was arrested for wearing a Tshirt. It was clearly against established clothing rules. She should've just been escorted from the area. No cuffs, no arrest imho.

And you are right Thor, we should be thankful her handlers have made her a laughingstock...

No, The Liberals need no boogymen, they are just pointing out the Truth. Too bad you are just undereducated to realize the fact that they are so much smarter than everyone else. See if we just would have spent more money in education, you'd be "enlightened" as well. Then you could "Pshaw" and "Harrumph" everytime you see "Chimpy" on tv saying something inane to the masses. You'd also know the "secret handshake" and all the "undercover phrases" so you'd be with the "in Crowd".*
