Granted, I don't know how much traction the petition will get with Merkel's new government (now a center-right coalition), but it's hard to imagine any such proposal made in the US, except perhaps by Warren Buffett... ;)
Also, I found it interesting that they define 'wealthy' as having a net worth of 500k euros or more (~750k US), whereas we were reluctant to draw that line at 2 million.
