Just finished the book, absolutely loved it.
I was trying to find where i made my predicitons from book 6 but couldnt.
I predicted:
*Dumbledore was alive: Nope, i was wrong
*Draco would become a good guy: I am taking a 1/4 point on that one since the mom did a good deed.
*Snape was a good guy: Yep, further getting it explained to me i found it quite touching he loved Lily that much. Hated him a little less after he made the comment to Dumbledore portrait that even today he loved her.
*Harry was a Horcrux: taking half credit it wasnt intentional but it was true
*Neville was going to have a huge part: my friends arent giving me credit on this one cause they said anyone could of done it, but i loved that tall lanky bastard
Thought it was all great. I actually teared up pretty bad when he used the rejuvination stone to summon his loved ones and had the conversation. I read it outloud to my roomate who made fun of me cause i kept getting choked up trying to read it.
Also, the return and death of Dobby i loved, and was saddened. I always liked his character.
Favorite parts:
1. Kreacher leading the house elf charge
2. Mrs. Weasly cussing and whooping the shit out of Bellatrix
3. Narcissa turning out to be compasionate and letting harry keep up his ruse.
4. The holey joke the twins made immediately after he lost his ear.
In closing, JK ROWLING, you weaved an amazing tale that i hope my own kids will read latter in life (if i ever have any) and thank you for sharing the world of Hogwarts.

Aunt Muriel discussing the bride to be, Fleur:
"She's a good-looking girl, but still--French."
LOL, I had to stop reading for a moment at that line.
And, I skipped your spoilers Grey, as I am only up to page 279 so far, heh. Good read so far.

Grey, what do you think of Dumbledore? He really kinda used Harry, didn't he?
I have to find some fault with him, he still to the end never told Harry the truth.
I also feel like there was quite a cop out when it came to the deaths. Hedwing and Dobby were the only ones that upset me. Don't get me wrong, Fred and George were my favorite characters in the whole series. But his death was so anti-climatic. Lupin and Tonks I can't even recall when they died, I just read about it when he used the stone. I swore up and down since the 4th book that Ron was gonna die in the end. (he sacrificed himself as the knight so harry could checkmate the king, the "die ron, die" comments in divination, etc.) that when he, Heromine, and Harry all survived I was pretty surprised. Even Hagrid who has been kinda a dolt with a heart of gold who kept fucking up over and over throughout the past 7 books survived death, twice.
The battle at Hogwarts saved it all for me though, with Neville leading the rebellion and making his grandmother proud finally.
I liked it, and I look forward 5-10 years from now when Tonks and Lupin's kid has his own series.

I totally agree Dumbledore totally used Harry, but he pretty much told him, when he told snape to pass on the info, which was in the form of the penseive. It was a hell of an elaborate plan that Dumbledore setup.
Yeah they never go into how tonks and lupin died, they just were there lying next to a dead Fred.
The battel of Hogwarts made me read so fast, i swear i blinked and 80 pages had gone by. It was so well done, Im jazzed Seamus and Dean got to fight. I was sadden by Colin that little photographer bastard made me smile.
I agree I really hope that he gets a series, if you think about it he is the same as harry, orphaned by Voldemort. Hope to have a cameo godfather Harry :)
I loved the 19 years later but was wanting a little more. Some more of the teachers and student want to know how their lives ended up but i guess that my of been too many pages to do.

It was so hard to close the book when i finished reading it... The best part of the whole book for me was in the last few paragraphs. When Harry told his Son Albus Severus Potter, that one of the men he was named after was in Slitherin, and that he was the bravest man he knew.
I loved the book, I hated the fact that it would be the last Harry Potter that i will ever sit down to read with excitement.
Thank you J.K Rowling!

I was just going to post something along the lines of Jedd's comments. I only finished reading the book about 30 minutes ago, and felt something needed to be said about Harry's choice of a name for one of his sons. (Bold in the quote is mine)
I have not read the first six books, although I did buy the set in paperback, and plan to read 1-7 now. I always had a feeling Snape had a lot more to him, going by the great job Alan Rickman has done portraying him in the movies. Harry choosing to honor both Albus and Severus in such a manner also spoke volumes I am sure to the rest of the Wizarding community. (See how well J.K. Rowling gets the imagination moving)
I have seen the first four movies and read enough pieces on the first six books that I figured it would be a snap to get into this book, which it was; but, all the details need to be filled in for me, so I think I will enjoy even more now reading the complete set. And I too would like to thank the author for what she has shared with the world.:)

Hey guys,
Stayed clear of this thread until now. Though I picked up the book the day it was released, I hadn't had the chance to read it until the weekend (been far too busy buried in the India Office Records at the British Library among some bad-smelling East India Company correspondence books!), and just put it down.
Bloody great stuff. Loved the gritty and dark themes in the book, looking forward to seeing how they transform on screen (Mad-eye, George's Ear, Hermionie being tortured, Lupin/Fred's death, etc). Chocked up a couple of times I'm afriad, took a good while to get through the forest scene when Harry uses the Stone of Resurrection and his parents, Lupin and Sirius pop up.
Cool bits
- Neville, grew a big pair or what?
- The wedding line, "scrimgeour dead, ministry has fallen, they are coming"
- Whooping Dolores Umbridge in the Ministry
- The entire Fight for Hogwarts chapter
- Snape twist.. that was one stylish twist.
- Well, all of it.
