I was gonna get it, but after I found out you can only install it three times (this includes if you upgrade hardware) I figure I'm gonna wait it out to see if EA fixes this. I'm a firm believer in paying for software, but I will not pay full price for something only to get a lend of it for a few installs. I upgrade a LOT, and would easily burn through three installs in a year.
Here's hoping they dump this, because I REALLY wanna play it!

Yeah, that sucks. Anymore every computer is connected to the net, it should just be 1 active account like MMORPGs. They seem to be the only product where piracy doesn't exist (at least, not much)
My wife bought it for my kids..... is this an interactive on-line game? I don't want my kids playing anything that opens up communcation with people like , well, you :)
But seriously, is this like Everquest or what?

I don't think it has a multiplayer at all right now.

you cant communicate with the outside world, basically their creations can come to your world as random encounters. you have the option to ban users also if they make things inappropriate.
I have it installed on 2 computers in my house both running it at same time.
Its a great game though.
did you buy two discs or can two of my kids play at the same time with one disc?

Requires the disk to run... so...
To be honest... I wasn't as impressed with the game as I wanted to be. The first couple... ages? were really cool. The RTS portion didn't have enough units... it was dumbed down for the general populace. I love a good RTS and the elements involved. This felt... I don't know... too simple.
I haven't played around in the space portion yet.
I did absolutely love how the game lets you create everything of your own from your species, to your buildings to your vehicles. Probably half the time I spent playing the game was just doing that.

i didnt need the disk to run. I have it running at this very moment on two pc's.

I am in tribal stage, having fun :) I hear space stage is the longest and most complex.
Okay thanks for all the info.... I may load it up and play it myself later tonight. Sounds like they can't get into too much trouble when I'm not around....

What kind of space farer have you made? I've made a scientist (red red blue blue) and an ecologist (blue red green green). Space hasn't engaged me yet, so I'm run through up to space twice now. :)

The 10 space types spoiler. I won't spoil what each does though...:)
If you play as three or four of the same color trait, you will end up with one of these:
Green: Shaman
Blue: Trader
Red: Warrior
If you play as half and half, you will end up this way:
Green and Blue: Diplomat
Green and Red: Zealot
Blue and Red: Scientist
If you play as all colors at least once, depending on which one you played twice:
Green: Ecologist
Blue: Bard
Red: Knight

From every forum on it i've read, the first parts are really fun, but the later stages get too repetitive and lackluster.
The biggest complaint i've heard so far is that the replay value isn't that great after you play it awhile. (Get's boring and dull)
Things may change later, but that's what i've been hearing and reading the most about Spore.
That said, i'll most likely pick it up later on if i see it on sale. (Making creatures is really fun though on the creator)

I played through the end of the tribal stage, and wasn't very impressed.
It's neat at first, but gets repetitive and tedious pretty quickly, IMO.

I gave it another try last night as a peaceful herbivore. Going green was more fun than red, because it was a bit more challenging.
It's nifty how some traits are still useful as you evolve. Spending extra time maxing out after you "win" a state is worthwhile, because you're more powerful in the next.
My farmers were able to easily defend against attacking spearmen, for example, just using a maxed out poison spit ability from the previous stage.

So, space sucks for the first hour or so, but once you get the hang of it (and defend enough attacks to get the super turret), it starts to be fun. The trouble comes when you want to do something that your race didn't prepare for early: like go exploring when you were reddish, or go world building without diplomacy tools, or go on a rampage if you were greenish. Basically you can do every one over time, but sometimes it demands you do parts of the game you're not interested in before you can.
Zealot is fun (bam, take a planet you can reach, really long refresh). While you are basically stuck if someone declares war on you, the good news is that once you find their home planet (and have super turret), they stop being a threat, and you get a mega spice producer, with all cities producing at colony rates.
I loved the easter egg of the MULE soundtrack: one of my very favorite games of the commodore 64.
Definitely low replay value if you don't like the toy aspect of the game, but it's awesome if you're a "journey" rather than a "result" person. Going all green is easy. Going all red is easy. going all blue is a little harder, Trying to swing from green to red to green or vice versa was pretty fun.
And then comes the easter egg hunts.
Can you soothe a 250 point attacker in creature?
Can you soothe 3?
Can you bring them as pets for tribal?
Can you keep all three alive to the end?

I'm finding space to be SO tedious. More keyboard shortcuts, please.
Seriously. Less than two promotions from the end, and it has become so tedious that I have no desire to finish.

Meh? I was underwhelmed by the game - made it to the space stage in an afternoon, and I wasn't really trying to race through content. The game play is actually fairly flat and uninspired, I think the only thing Spore has going for it is the creation aspect, but that is barely holding my interest. It's definitely cool, at first, but success seems to be centered around simply putting the right parts on creations, not how to put them on.
The gameplay elements all feel thrown together. There's a flash game on the web that simulates the amoeba stage. The fighting stage is 'okay,' and the RTS aspect is dumbed down even more than the low end of the flooded RTS market.

For what it's worth, the space stage has taken me far longer than all of the previous stages combined.
I got to space stage and got my ass handed to me on the middle difficutly setting... So I went back and played on easy setting and did better into the Space stage but I don't have a real clue on how to fight space combat.... I get my ship killed over and over....

space fighting: go to the planet. switch to right click camera movement, and use strafe and backwards a lot. Kill the small guys first. Don't forget to abduct any of their wreckage that might fall (worth cash).
It's too painful to do on a regular basis, so get your super turrets as soon as they are available... then you just have to go to the planet and wait for the turret to kill everything when defending.

Some notes as I've played:
Here's a challenge for you: on hard, can you get a blue industrial outcome without having first had a blue tribal outcome? i.e. can you go economic without starting with an econ city?
I was making a bard (red blue green..attempting blue and failing) and found this nigh impossible.
In other news, Siren song works about the same as static cling: the other guys don't fire back while it's on. So far fanatic is the good one, though ecologist is a time saver in some circumstances.
I haven't tried knight, but if the minime is as worthless as the allies, I don't wanna.
After repeated playings, you starts seeing all your old creations in it.
Finally figured out what crop circles were for: drawing out the citizens so the infected dude stops hiding in the buildings.

So I found out that my game wasn't autosaving and the last time I had saved was toward the end of the cell phase (I played straight through to space). Needless to say, I'm a little disappointed. I'll got back and play through the game again sometime, but right now I'm not really interested enough.

Well, I finally made it to Omnipotent.
It got about 99% less tedious when I just started going and bombing the hell out of anyone's planets who attacked mine. Wish I could have finished without being a dick though. I was happy with winning the 2-3 stages without fighting.
Is there anything to the Grox protecting something at the center?
