Anyone done one of these in a Microsoft 2003 server enviornment? If so, did you have any issues?

2005 should have an "upgrade adviser" that will analyze your database(s) and warn you about any breaking changes that affect your particular situation. For the most part, it's a very minor upgrade and shouldn't be bad.

Worst case, you could run the 2005 at 8.0 compatibility level.

Yeah I downloaded the adviser yesterday. I was just wondering if anyone had experienced any problems performing the upgrade. I have to do the upgrade next Friday evening, so I wanted to give a little time here for some advice if there was any.

Nah, there's not much difference between them. 7.0 - 2008 are all easy upgrades.

Cool, thanks.

Get query analyzer and go through all of your stored procedures and triggers. I've found that they get carried over to the new server, it shows that they're present, but if they won't compile, the upgrade won't mention it at all, and they'll actually be disabled and it could be months before you find out that something isn't working right.

Erm, also, check all software packages that are using sql to see what their sql upgrade requirements are. (you may be using an older version that does not support 2005, etc.)

Did it go well?

Once we figured out exactly what the folder names needed to be for the zipped files, it was a breeze. Too bad that took a microsoft tech call since we couldn't find that info anywhere. We haven't had any data inconsistencies or issues that have made themselves apparent thus far though. Thanks.
