Honestly I am a bit surprised and disappointed. It really doesn't have anything new or special. I dunno what I expected but its not as amazing as WC3 or Diablo2 were.

I think they are hiding alot. As there is some rumors I have heard of a new protoss/zerg race once all campaigns completed.

Well to complete all campaigns you'll need to buy 2 more expansions and wait 3 more years - that's not exactly the big "ooh aah" payoff I expected.

I'm not terribly good (#6 in bronze league, yyeahhh!) but I'm loving it.
My name is either DiscW.Wliten or Wliten.DiscW, I forget which.

Anyone playing? The beta did not do it justice and all of the units were not released in Beta.
I am loving the graphics and cut scenes so far they are just amazing.

First impressions:
Feels just like the original, with updated graphics and more units / abilities. This isn't a bad thing... the original had so much right about it, if they changed too much it would be a disappointment. Besides that, I didn't expect it to be much different seeing as how they need it to be able to replace SC1 in Korea.
I've only played the first 4 or so missions of single player, but so far I am very impressed. The story is compelling and entertaining, and the gameplay is fun.
Adding friends and forming groups works well in my experience so far. A couple of my friends that have the game and I played a couple Co-Op rounds that were very fun. Something I'm remembering all too quickly is how fast paced the game can be, especially when the Zerg are involved.
All in all I am happy with it, but I do wish they had released all of the content at once rather than this new milk-it-to-death-with-DLC scheme everyone seems to be going with now days.

You know, I played this briefly over at a buddy's, and really had no further interest in it. I already played Starcraft, and this just seems like a shinier remake of the original as opposed to a really new game to the extent that you had with say, Warcraft 1 to 2, or 2 to 3, or Diablo 1 to 2.
That's understandable, I suppose, given how hugely popular Starcraft still is, but as someone who hasn't played the original since like 2004, I don't see the big deal.

I wouldn't call it a remake per say, because there is some stark differences. Warcraft 1 to 2 was probably similar: better UI, new units, slightly new gameplay elements. The Reaper and Colossus can scale walls and cliffs which is a rather interesting and difficult to defend against. Infestors moving while burrowed is essentially the Zerg's answer to that. I think each race has half a dozen new units, which is about double what was added in Brood War.
However, the basic gameplay is essentially the same - how much different could it be? The necessity to micro has been shrunk while the necessity to macro has grown making it much different from WC3 but otherwise its the same game as before. The main improvements are in the Custom Map generation (as seen in the campaign - cut scene in between each campaign mission aside) and in Battle.net. I'm only 5 missions in thus far in the campaign and already there have been 5 new units that aren't in the multiplayer (firebats, a new drop ship, medics, ground transports with guns, and even guns for on top of terran bunkers). They've also taken all of the knowledge learned with WoW's Arena system and applied it towards matchmaking and ladders, plus really making it easy to play with your friends and making co-op not just a joke but actually quite challenging.
Its not going to be like what WC3 was to WC1-2, but it is still a sweet game and the campaign alone is worth the investment imo.

Let me know anyone if you want a release-version guest pass. Lets you play the full game client for a total of 7 hrs (over a 14-day span).

I'd like to try it out without buying it. I haven't played Star Craft in 12 years since someone stole my discs.

Each retail copy came with 2 guest keys (at least mine did). I haven't given mine out yet if anyone wants.
Also, I think Tycho from Penny Arcade summed it up pretty well in today's post:
"... It doesn't entirely matter, though, when Gabe is across the room on his own machine, and we are - the two of us - beating on a single "Easy" A.I. Zerg opponent, just as we did when we still lived in the same apartment. They say you can't go home again, but you can, actually, if your home is an imaginary world infested with xenomorphs. I was under the impression that the genre had moved past this and into squads, cover, and co-op. Maybe it has. But what they've done here - that is, to realize a worthy nostalgia that doesn't merely trade on sentimentality - bears itself with a regal charm."

i love it, just finished the single player campaign and well i did feel a little let down at the end, but only like if you watch a movie or something and see to be continued at the end... and the end is pretty sick

Still working at it. Only found out today that zerg and protoss campaigns aren't included, which was quite a letdown ("My life for Aiur!" and all that). But it's quite a game.

It's nice to see the the people who constantly screamed about how "it isn't a full game!" had to eat crow when the game came out. Blizzard made a great decision in focusing (almost) an entire campaign on one race. It's been a long time since I finished a single player game but still wanted to go back and get more of the achievements and beat it on a harder difficulty. I usually just move on after beating a game once.
And as excepted, the multiplayer is fantastic. Though I play Zerg, and seeing how much of a disadvantage they're at vs Terran is frustrating, but I enjoy the challenge and I'll be better prepared when they get buffed.
Sent out some friend invites, always looking for practice partners. I'm gold league at the moment.

I play all four leagues and am mediocre at all of them lol. To be fair, though, 3 and 4 person games can take a lot longer... I've only played a total of maybe 50 games (across all four leagues) and won slightly over half. I think I am nearly silver in 1v1, 3v3, and 4v4 and am 30 or so in silver in 2v2.
I have 3 friends that play regularly and another 3 that play sporadically so most nights we at least have a 3v3 going, using my TS server. It's great. I have to say, before release I was worried because I heard a lot of negative stuff about it. I have been really impressed with grouping, matching and smoothness of games.

I can't seem to get my game to go past the first mission. I destroy it, beat the mission get everything complete, then when I go to start the next mission it loads the first one again. Not fucking cool. Any ideas?
