I'd like to hear Howard Stern uncensored, but I don't really want to buy Sirius just for that, esp. since they don't carry MLB.
Do you guys think Stern's show will be readily available on bittorrent after it starts?

They'll be carrying MLB for the 06 season? I had thought XM had signed them in to like a 3 year deal or something?

Wild, I had thought XM had them exclusively too.

XM has them, not Sirius, if I understand correctly. Sirus has several of the other majors, but not MLB.
NHL, NBA, NFL = Sirius
MLB, College (ACC, Big10, Pac10), NASCAR, PGA = XM
The entire Howard Stern show is dumped daily into alt.binaries.howard-stern in several formats. .RM and .WAV in 30-60 minute incriments WHILE it's on the air (ok, 30-60 mintues behind realtime), and in commercial free .WAV files about an hour or two after he finishes for the morning.
So, yes, since every Howard Stern show for the last 5 years or so has been posted to alt.binaries.howard-stern, I suspect on 1/9/06 things will continue as normal, except they'll be digital-to-digital instad of analog-to-digital.
As a bonus, here's the 12/16/05 show in commerical free 56k WAV file format -- as a NZB, fire up your newsreaders.

One of the two of them played - they were in Mark of Honor, and Keith (Salvin) was a regular on their show and he also played.

Hmmmm my GF bought me a XM setup for Xmas. But dammit they don't carry the NFL/NBA. I'm not a big MLB fan...
Def not a Howard Stern fan, tho I'll listen if I stumble onto him.

I stopped listening to him last year when he kept preaching about satellite radio over and over. The local station here dropped him b/c of it. I guess I could be a smidge partial since a good friend is the afternoon DJ.
Do they still play Stern on ETV? It was always more fun to *watch* than listen anyway :D

Nows a great time to buy Sirius stock, it should go up a few bucks when Stern launches. Its around 6.73$ a share and rising last I checked.

It went up a few bucks when the Stern deal was announced. There shouldn't be a bounce on 1/9.

Fandros, do you really like listening to the NFL or NBA? I was talking to some of the guys at work who produce for ESPN about this, those kinda games really just read better on television (or in person) imho. Hockey too. Baseball on the other hand is slow enough its great to listen to at the beach, in the car, or wherever. Statistically, my co-workers said, they get better ratings when covering football or basketball than baseball because of that ... but could also be because of sheer # of games.

I listen to NFL and College football games on the radio a lot. In a lot of cases I actually prefer the radio annoucers over the TV ones and when I can listen to both I will..as in turn off the volume on the TV and listen to the radio.
However with all the "free" radio stations will be a cold day in hell before I start sending another $10 a month for something not needed.

Does every News Reader read .NZB files?
Can someone point me to a FAQ or something?

Baseball is great on radio. I can't explain why. Oh, sure, if it's on TV, I'll rarely turn it off in favor of the radio, but with a good announcer, I can listen to an entire baseball game in the car -- and with XM, I don't worry about being out of range of the AM broadcast. Baseball (and other sports) are on fairly low bandwidth stations on XM (and presumably the other system). ...about the quality of sreaming Realplayer audio...but still more than enough for a baseball game.
Basketball can be good on radio, but I think it's 100% up to the announcer, and it's still nothing like watching it on television (or, of course, live).
Football? TV only, thanks.
