We need a thread for this I am guessing, and since the polls are starting to close, here we go...
Obama wins Georgia!

Only 1% of Georgia has reported in by 7:45 EST, dunno how you can say that just yet :) I don't trust exit polls and neither should you, they're wrong more than they're right.

I'm guessing it's exit polling...

He is up 2:1 in exit polls, and also from the latest results... all the news channels already projected him as the winner in Georgia.
Ooohh it might be closer then I thought, even though they projected him as the winner, Hillari us up to 42% now...
52% Obama
42% Hillary :(

He may very well win the state, its still pretty bad form to state something based on 2% of a state's votes as fact.

Man this shit is facinating to watch these days. Fox sports,ESPN, Game day all have nothing on this fast paced graphic laden stactic from the far side of the moon coverage.

Funny enough...exit polls started showing inaccuracies when voting started to go computerized...with a majority of people polled voting for the more moderate candidate and yet the good 'ol computer machines seem to ALWAYS show a different result.
The Precinct Ballot Counter 2100 (PBC), the Optech
Eagle III, the Model 100 Optic Mark Reader (OMR), or the Votronic
touch-screen system that counted your vote, these machines have
something in common: they are all designed and operated by
Elections Systems & Software, Inc. (ES&S). Each contains a two-way modem, allowing them to communicate—and be communicated with—while they are in operation.
Now that's security at its finest!!!!

There is a large semi-panic in the two parties tonight, as the electonic, or touch-screen type machines, do not offer any paper hard copy in the event a recount is needed. Also, if those storms down south knock out the computers, no data will be available on non-paper ballotting for any double checking of the data.

It's okay, computers are a new technology. Just give them a few years to work out the kinks. I hear in some places they even have a new technology called, 'printers.' Just imagine the possibilities, as our electoral system begins to embrace these emerging technologies!
On a serious note, I've never seen as much interest in my students during political season as I have this year. Even my 9th graders were asking about who I was voting for. It's a good sign, and I wonder if it's more blowback from how horrible our political system has appeared in the press over the last few years.

Those diebold machines are amazingly easy to manipulate. I watched a video awhile back where someone "hacked" one into admin mode with just a blank USB memory stick, and then changed all of the previous votes on the machine.
I cast my vote today on one and had to wonder who my vote will really end up counting for.
It's a relatively new technology, yes. However, even when working well they will fundamentally remove a lot of accountability and transparency. I'm all for technology, but I think the diebolds are a bad system.
Put it this way. Online shopping a decade ago was much more secure than our current system of choosing the leader of the free world.

I like the idea of using paper ballots with an optical scanner on the box that you deposit the ballot in. The box can immediately reject and destroy a ballot that is ambiguous, allowing the voter to try again while still at the polling station. Votes can be tallied by computer for quick results, but the paper ballots remain for a recount by hand if it becomes necessary. (And hand recounts could be done by a few randomly selected precincts anyway to verify that the system is working properly.)
If people are unable to fill out a paper ballot for whatever reason, the paper ballot could be printed by a system with a touch screen in those cases.

All the people screaming for paper are trying to push us back into the dark ages like someone can hack a computer now adays to fix an election.
Increased deforrestation from US paper trail elections will drive up green house gases causing the oceans to rise and little kids in africa to die from AK~47s
Just vote for Max Headroom

Horrendous logistical problems with caucus in the Minneapolis area, due to massive turnout. People not even able to get into the extremely long lines, because they could not find a place to park, hehe.

Something funny going on... let me see what you guys think.
MSNBC shows the total delegate count as...
Obama 838
Clinton 834
But CNN shows.
Obama 730
Clinton 818
Whats the deal?
Sanchek

Both of them are estimating to some extent, but I believe MSNBC is doing so more than CNN. Neither of them are hard numbers right now.

they might be differing in their count of the super delegates too, or something.
Sanchek

Super delegates aren't committed to either candidate until they actually cast their vote at the convention. Those shouldn't be counted in any projections (though, they are pretty certain to side with Hilary, right now).

Sad that almost 20% of the decision in the form of Super delegates comes from the very same nonsense we are trying to get away from in voting for Obama... :(

In another stunning blow to the security and integrity of Diebold's electronic voting machines, someone has made a copy of the key which opens ALL Diebold e-voting machines (http://www.bradblog.com/?p=4066#more-4066/) from a picture on the company's own website. This electronic voting thing just gets funnier by the day.
