I found myself smiling and grinning stupidly after reading this small study on common MMOs superstitions (http://www.nickyee.com/daedalus/archives/001554.php).
I also found myself guilty of some listed there, the "stay out the spawn room" for EQ, and "instance seeders" in WoW. :o
I was wondering about you folks, did you believe in some kind of superstitions like those in EQ, or any MMO you are playing now? :)

That spawn thing was actually true, just wildly exaggerated. You had to be standing on the exact spawn loc for it to happen, so it was almost impossibly rare.
How that so quickly turned into the whole "anti-camp stay out of the room" paranoia, I have no idea.
I think my favorite superstitions were the ones about Raster.
I had a superstition come true on me.... it was, if you play MMO 12 hour a day 7 days a week you will gain 15 or more lbs AND your wife may threaten to leave you.... abrupt stoppage reveresed both for me :)

The only superstition I thoroughly believed was that if you were named Haloface, you would never retrieve an Essence of Hate from PoH, as long as you lived - or for the 5 years my character lived.
Was absolutely true.

I proudly carried my lucky cabbage in EQ, and still would - although I never really believed in that one. It was fun to hand people foraged cabbages and tell them to cheer up though.
Camping a spawn for 6+ hours (days, weeks...) will do strange things to a player's mind, including spawn dances and other rituals. In the early days of EQ people believed you got higher quality pelts off animals if you didn't use DoTs to kill them.
