Don't want to say too much, as it might ruin the movie for you, but I will say this....
FRAKKING AWESOME!
Move over Samuel L Jackson, let Liam Neeson through, he's the new MAN!

My only complaint is that they didn't reward attention to detail in the viewer -- I didn't need to see 50 flashbacks explaining every point.

He wasn't exactly a bump on a log in Star Wars Ep1.

And then there was that movie where he died and came back to life and roared and ate that dude whole. That was hardcore.

I saw it not too long ago. Seemed like the same general plot idea as Man on Fire, but was quite well done in my opinion. Definitely a fun one to watch, though some of it felt like it was a bit too convenient.

The lessons of this film is that your Dad is always right -- and has a throat punch to back it up. And a plate to throat, knife to throat, club to throat, bulldozer to throat ... this was to throat injuries what Star Wars was to hand amputation.

Thanks for mentioning this one; I need to go downstairs and dig it out for another viewing. Excellent movie.

The Professional is one of my favorite movies. Since this is done along the same lines, I'm sure I will enjoy it.

I assume you've seen The Euro version Leon, so much better and more disturbing.?

Yes, I have. I wish I could find a copy of that, but I haven't had much luck. The only torrent I found had no sound... :(

A lot. At least 20 minutes of the original plot line. Leon is the original version of the movie. It had to have stuff cut out for release in the US including Leon teaching Matilda to be an assassin and much more 'sexual' tension between Leon and Matilda.
It's a much more complete movie, but it's much more objectionable to the US Rating Board and the American viewer.

I will probably buy it, but I'd also like a copy of the torrent, too. I'm a pirate, that way, LOL.
There are quite a few uncomfortable scenes in that release. Natalie Portman had wanted to do that role, over her parents' objections. They thought the role was too advanced for her at the time.
Stellar performances by both her and Jean Reno.

This was the movie that really introduced these fine actors to the American public, IMO. She then did a nice job in "Beautiful Girls" in '96 which was shot on my mail route (at the time) in Stillwater, MN; I was in fact within arm reach of Natalie Portman and Uma Thurman and Timothy Hutton one afternoon, as they were prepping for a shot and I was walking the route. Of course, everyone sees her in Star Wars garb now.
Jean Reno also was in La Nikita, the original film with Anne Parillaud, and some other so so french movies, but he always stood out. He was great in "Ronin", and also turned in a worthy performance in "The da Vinci Code".
I thought Gary Oldman was hilarious as the head dirty cop, turning in what looked like a preparatory over-the-top role for his upcoming part in "The 5th Element".
All in all, "The Professional" is a great movie, in either version.
I think Liam is giving the performance that George C. Scott might have given in "Hardcore" (1979) if such extreme levels of violence would have been tolerated.

Watched this again on Bluray to see if the Unrated version was any different, it was apparently just the international release with an extended torture scene and some more heroin needle scars.
However, it had something every guilty pleasure film needs, which was a feature to enable a countdown timer on how long he has to save the virgin princess alongside a ticking counter of fatalities and injuries. Two thumbs way up!
Final official tally was 33 killed and a mere 13 injured -- the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Esophagi also certifies that no throats were harmed in the making of this picture.

This is one of my favorite action movies of all time. I just loved this movie. I have never seen the cut version though, lucky me!
