So I am a college student who works 20 hours a week for Cable Companies trying to get there "existing" customers to upgrade there services. It's telemarketing but at the same time it's not as bad as calling just random people.. I just wanted to give some general tips that I hope willl help people understand why they call how they do:).

1. Not even answering calls: Companies have a certain amount of times they will call someone to get ahold of them. Cable companies will usualy call you back around 25 times "per promotion" to try and get a hold of you. Dont hang up or ignore there calls if you want them to stop pick up the phone and say "Pls put me on your do not call list"

2. National and State Do Not Call Lists: If at anytime you showed interest in a product (ie a mall survey), Were or Are a existing member of one of there services (Cable) then they and the companies they pay to advertise for them can call you even if you are on these lists. BTW they have 30 days since the last day you were a member to call you with promotions.

3. Telermarketers calling ur Cell Phone: If you give some company or survey group your cell phone as the way to contact you, then you have no reason to bitch when they use it to contact you with promotions. Never use your cell phone when u sign up for stuff come on :/

Tips:

1. As much as you hate telermarketers be kind when you tell them to pls put you on there do not call lists because even though they are legally obligated to put you on that list, if you are a asshole to them theres a chance they wont just to piss you off. My company fires anyone on the spot they find doing this but it would be nieve to think that there isnt some people out there that does this.

2. On your Voice Mail Say at some point " This is (Name) if this is a solicitor pls put me on your do not call list" Most Telermarketers are trained to hang up the call once we here a answering machine, however if we dont do it fast enough and we hear that you want to be on our do not call list then we are legally obligated to put you on it. So it can't hurt for it to be there.

3. Find out the company that the guy is calling on behalf of and give them a call and tell them that you prefer not getting anymore promotional calls.

4. National and State Do Not Call Lists: They really do work but remember theres loopholes.

Telermarketing is going to be around forever because of the fact that it's still a big seller. So educate yourself on the right ways to stop them from calling ya instead of ignoring them :).

God just called, he told me you were going to hell... Just kidding... mostly...

I have never *EVER* used my cell phone as a number for any online surverys mall surveys or any of that. Yet I still recieve phone calls on my cell, that annoys me ever so much more than getting a phone call at home.

I've found the best way to get off a companies list is to start asking them questions, i.e. where they're located what their mailing address is etc, when they ask why inform them you want to know where to send the papers to when you take them to court for violating the do not call list. Yeah they might win the case but I can garauntee it's going to cost them more than me; if it ever even gets that far.

lol I took the job because it paid 13 bucks a hour and I only have to work on the days I have school, plus it's fun to laugh about some of the calls we make :)
