Anyone see the remake? Opinions?
Anyone know the validity of it being based on "real life" happenings?

Everything I saw so far on it, say that it can't compare.
Wrong Turn, which I watched this weekend, was the SHIT!
It was the type of horror and violence that made the TCM famous. I am going to purchase that dvd definately.
I also watched The Life of David Gale this weekend. Definately one of the rents. Very very twisted, with an excellent plot.

The remake of Chainsaw was frigging violent as hell. Honestly after I rewatched the original it wasnt all that violent by comparison.
I think the mood is the only thing that seperates them.

I just saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre this afternoon, and it was okay. Perhaps I'm just used to it, but I didn't find it to be all that violent (in comparison with other recent flicks, of course).
I caught the second half of Wrong Turn this past weekend as well, Dart, and though I didn't see all of it, my friends brought me up to speed on things, and the rest was pretty good.
And to answer Bowler's question in regards to the "true story" aspects, Based Upon: This is a remake of the low-budget 1974 slasher film, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which was itself based upon the true story of Plainfield, Wisconsin resident Ed Gein, whose cannibalistic and graverobbing behavior also inspired such films as Psycho and the Hannibal Lechter books. From here (http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hp&id=1808406223&cf=prev). I'm too lazy to find actual articles about the real-life happenings, but that should give you plenty to base searches on.
Also, did the theaters where you saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre show a preview for the upcoming remake of Dawn of the Dead? I'm anxious to see how that's going to be, as I really loved the original (and Night of the Living Dead for that matter; never saw Day of the Dead though, the third in the series).

I saw it friday night. As Strong Bad would say it gave me the jibblies.... oh there they are.... the jibblies. It most certainly helps to go see it after sacking away a 6 pack of beer, and with a bunch of buddies in a full theatre. The dang girl next to me screaming friggin loud as heck provided more jumps for me then anything though.

I thought it was decent. I rarely jump at scary movies, but I jumped a few times during it. The chick I went with nearly ripped my arm off a few times. We were both kinda loaded up on Grey Goose. I'd definitely recommend some alcohol to make it better.
The cop was fuckin hilarious.

Snopes covers the "based on a true story" aspect in depth. In short, no, it wasn't based on anything except the same guy who was "inspiration" for the Psycho and Lecter characters.
I'd link the story, but I encourage people to just read everything at Snopes.
