Sucks they had to tag it along with the defense bill, *but* I'm glad it finally got through the house.

Why don't they just rename the "fiscal budget" to "defense bill?" Bush is dropping everything in the defense bill. Katrina funding? Lord.

Every bill contains extraneous amendments. Now if you voted against this bill because Katrina aid didn't belong there or didn't fit your vision of true aid, you can be targeted as weak on defense. If you voted against the bill because of its military provisions, you "voted against aid for Katrina victims."

One more reason to be thoroughly disgusted with the conduct of our elected politicians, and the games they play with serious issues.

“Tonight the Congress will renew our commitment to the principles of fiscal discipline and limited government that minted this majority,” said Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., who leads a group of House conservatives.
Other conservative republicans such as Senator William Graft Payophs were asked to define "limited government" they said " By limited government we mean a government that has a limited role in protecting it's citizens, a limited role in watching its largest corporations to insure their integrity, especially in the area of managing retirement funds.
Republican Congressman James Holiroller commented "Modern conservative philosophy and our desire to limit is what got us elected" He went on to say "We want to show that by this government has its limits". 'just look at some of the legislation and laws that we have passed since there has been a republican majority'. Holiroller pointed out "We have limited what is listened to on the radio, we have limited the books our school children have access to, and we have limited the ability of those average citizens in need to get assistance". "We have removed the limits placed on our largest corporations in the areas of environmental standards and safety"
Summing it all up Congressman Holiroller said "By working these long hours the American people now know that this government has a real concern about them and their standard of living. We are today setting the record straight with the liberal media and proving that by 2008 the people of America will have a standard of living that is now enjoyed by the citizens of the manufacturing and industrial powerhouse countries such as China and Vietnam".

Go-go underrated Phoenix.
Please note that Lleuric quoted city non-metro population statistics.
In metro areas, Alaska's 619,000 barely registers.

If people are now going to pretend to understand what "riders" are all about does that mean we can stop with the bullshit poo flinging contest regarding Kerry and the infamous "he voted for it before he voted against it". I imagine this vote will be a huge pile of fresh ammo for 2006.

Didn't all Alaskans receive, in effect, over $800 each from the Bridge to Nowhere and Don Young Way projects? Of course, those only service a handful of people, but the pork must flow, eh?

The poll on the MSN page from that link has as the affirmative selection "Yes, America needs all the domestic oil it can get and today's technology makes it safe." Apparently someone thinks the oil that comes out of Alaska will be burned in the US. I certainly hope it's true.

Thormir maybe you're confused with the Permanent Fund Dividend? we get a kickback essentially every year from the state from the oil revenues. And they pay the entire state budget off the money as well. As far as that bridge goes. God I hope they build it cause my ass is buying land out there before they do.

Wasn't confusing the divident fund (which I once received as a resident). Just dividing, roughly, the several hundred million dollars porked into these two projects by the state's population.
I hear the dividend fund's support (virtually a requirement for any political candidacy in the past) is gradually weakening. Any truth to that?

there has been some talk of making one last big pay out, when the economy was tanking, but now with it on the rebound probably not. Especially if we open up ANWR. The thing about the PFD is everyone sees it as free money. But in reality you'd save that much money living in the lower 48 anyways. I kinda look at it more like a cost of living adjustment.
