Ok, first off, I didn't mind it. It was a great watch and my son loved it.
However, I couldn't help but feel that it wasn't standard Star Wars fare. For one the beginning was NOT like the other movies (it's REALLY noticeable). Minor point I know, but you get used to something over 30 years, it's kinda hard to give up hehe.
Anyways, I found that the character development was a little weak, and that there were plot lines with big giant gaping holes that you could send a star destroyer through. Again, only so much time, but still, I found it very...well....ok. And ok is well...ok, but for Lucas I expect more, so Ok is in fact not ok.
Believe it or not I found the older animated Clone Wars (the cartoon not the CGI) to be way better as far as story went. For one thing it made you feel like there was an actual WAR going on. Like the CGI movie, they focused on Skywalker, but unlike the movie, you saw more and more of the other Jedi and actually got some storylines that had nothing to do with Anakin himself (or maybe slightly remotely related to him), but it gave it a better sense of universe. I also found the clone troopers more believable in the animated cartoon clone wars.
I'm not against some of the clone troopers having a "little" personality, but they were never meant to be main (semi-main characters?). They are flesh and blood soldiers, bred to fight the Republics (and later Empires) war.
I'm definately not saying don't go see it, but I would recommend going to watch it then go get the cartoon version (DVD version if possible, no commercials ;) ) and you'll see what I mean.
As a side note, this brings up another question. Is the movie a Retcon of the original cartoon or something that sort of provides more story to what was going on inbetween the lines in the cartoon? There are some discrepencies. I don't want to say too much (I probably already have LOL, sorry), but some discussion on this was be AWESOME!
