- Yes, yes, I know most of you aren't concerned with my little area of the world, especially in the middle of US elections.

However, I've brought this topic up loosely before, but it seems to be gaining some momentum.
So, our own George Bush. Whatchya think?

If there's one thing I think the EU needs (besides a stop on expanding) it is a triumvarant for domestic, foreign and leadership that these positions offer. Democracy almost stifles the EU's progress or ability to achieve anything. 27 opinions is too much spread over 450m people.

Some direction and leadership is welcomed, IMO.

But from who... from who indeed?

Me of course. :)

I'm actually getting my paperwork together to get my dual citizenship. I'm currently Canadian, and will soon be a Maltese citizen as well.

Then I'll come over and solve all your problems with Canadian complacency! :D

You can have Al Gore, he's a demigod and since Jerry Lewis isn't really viable he's a close second.

The EU began as a trade agreement much less comprehensive than NAFTA. I think we should definitely all be paying attention to how it evolves, since it might be a look into our own future.

The political evolving nature of the EU is an historic fascination. We're very much aware of it over here - the media in particular are obsessed with it - but elsewhere it is quite a low key phenomenon, which I think will stand to take many by surprise within a decade or so.

It remins me a lot of the Greek states after the Peloponnesian War. Many competing, violent, powerful and extremely varied states tear eachother apart and within a century Greece is pretty formed into allied leagues of loosely federated states in the wake of Rome and Parthia's rise.

...I swear, I don't even realise I'm doing it sometimes.

It seems that's the direction the world is headed now that its becoming smaller. Things we do here, China does there, Europe does there affect the entire world moreso than ever. Its entirely possible years from now the world will act as just a few or even one "country" with many, many states.

For Europe especially where you can travel for a few hours and have traveled through many different nations it makes so much sense to be somewhat unified and share currencies and passport info and customs laws and so forth. One figurehead to focus the efforts while not having any special power over the whole is a great thing.

It's always amazing to me to consider a landmass of equiv size to our own country having so many widely varied cultures and languages.

Of the 2 years I spent I could go less the distance of say Indiana and be in France where it was *once you got away from the Germany and French Boarder* was altogether a different experience.

Go that far in Indiana and the dialect of the same language is almost nonexistant.

'I hear Ken Livingston is available for the job.'

- You utter bastard. This is the saddest day of my life. The Conservative winner, Boris Johnstone, is the biggest prat you've ever seen.

I'm mourning this morning. Big time. Labour is crashing down..

Which is good. Blair has a much stronger legacy than to be remembered as the wooden Indian outside the EU cigar store.
