Most swedes are at least on paper tri-lingual.
We get mandatory english when we're 11ish in primary school and mandatory german/french/spanish (your pick) when we're 13ish.

Add to that that Sweden is the most computer heavy country in the world you can argue that we're quad-lingual if l33t indeed can be called a language.

I knew someone who could speak fluently in Spanish, Chinese, German, French, English and Japanese. The scary thing was he was able to write in all of them as well... be funny one minute he would be talking in English then switch to Chinese, then back to a different language.

In an ex-gf's family there was an elder lady, who was born in Germany, but moved to Cardiff during the war. Some years ago she was suffering heavily from Alheimer' disease. At the end, she used to start a sentence in english, then in the middle of the sentence she changed to german, and finished in enlish again. Was pretty hard to follow what she wanted to say.

Konnichiwa means good morning in Japanese...i think. i took a semester of Japanese in college. i sucked at it. i took 2 years spanish in HS, 1 semester of Japanese and 3 semesters of German in college. and im not fluent in any of them. i can write and read german somewhat ok, but thats about it
