**spoilers**
I loved it. the story was very interesting anyone else check it out.
I read about all the christians boycotting the film, but as a admitted christian i didnt see the big deal. Even if the author meant it to be anti-god, thats not what i walked away thinking about.
Anyway, loved the demon idea, about the spirit companions was neat. Also the techno-ren style was amazing.

Someone sent me a warning about this movie, claiming it was written by a "known atheist." Can you believe it? A "known atheist" in Hollywood! Thank goodness we have the power of email to warn us of these seditious individuals.
I'll probably see it, post-Christmas. I'm trying to figure out what's so horrible about this movie that every other movie out there doesn't do - even outside of Harry Potter, it's not as though magic and alternate worlds are a stranger to the big screen.

Really, the only thing that's horrible that I've read is that the ending is a set up for the hypothetical sequels, rather than a proper closure to the first movie. If sequels aren't green lit, viewers will be left hanging forevah.
"Known atheist." Heh.

It does raise the question of whether there are mysterious e-mails being sent about movies whose scripts were written by "known persons of faith".

I hated it. Awesome visuals, Great world, Fantastic characters, but the most ploding pedestrian story I've seen since, sinse....Eregon. Yeah, this is Eregon meets Chronicles of Riddick. The bear is to drama what jar jar is to comedy. The villains remind me of the bad guys in Chronicles of Riddick: cardboard cutouts without even the differentiation of G.I. Joe's foes.
None of the characters felt connected in the least, except for the girl and the buddy she saved, and the her relationship with her uncle.
And check out that story: the GIRL saves the BOY from getting separated from his DEMON, who in this world actually physically does WHISPER ADVICE. She succeeds by LYING with a straight face repeatedly. Which is odd, because nobody ever lies to her such that her truth telling device reveals the lie. The government is run by CHURCH who is taking actions based on what they think is best for them: being more inclined to follow orders. Whenever she gets into more trouble she can handle, a vast cast of dues ex machina characters intercede on her behalf. Suddenly. With little explanation even after the fight.
I guess I've seen enough good "you have a destiny in a prophesy" stories that a badly done one just sticks in my craw..

hehe the irony of people. I wouldnt insult this movie by likening it to Eregon, and I enjoy Riddick. But alas, we are all different.

Pitch Black was cool.
Chronicles of Riddick lacked a well acted villain. The Judy Densch character was unnecessarily fantastical.
Eregon was yet another "boy who is destined to save the world and everyone knows it" story. They get so old. At least Harry Potter has to study his ass off to learn his magic.
The last good fantasy I saw was....the lemony snicket stuff? Pirates of the Caribbean 3? Nah, Pan's Labrynth, of course, even with it's downer ending.
They've been better with the historicals, Rome on HBO was just awesome. As was 300 and that king arthur film, cheesy as it was....Still can't wait for george martin's stuff to see the light of day, but I worry that it will delay him finishing the series in the first place.
Fantasy shouldn't just mean duex ex machina. When it just means different laws of physics and different social expectations than now is when it's at its best.

Saw it tonight and I enjoyed it enough to want to read the book. The ending sucked but meh not the end of the world I'll read the other books. The Eragon movie sucked the book was much better, that's no secret.
I could definitely see how some overly religious finatic types would be offended by this movie/book. I see it as fantasy and that is how the teenager viewed it as well. The kids in the theatre were scared in parts. Overall it's not the best movie I've seen but I like the story and I was entertained.
