View Full Version : Tinkering Gripe...

First, I'll say that in the end, it's a free market. People are going to sell items for whatever they can sell them for. I've made good money on tinkering myself - especially when there weren't so many of us with high skill.

While doing Gnomish Vanishing Devices for my guild (new members) I ended up with an extra eye [and Bocote dumped one on me recently too]. So, I fashioned an extra GVD for resale.

Today's GVD was bought from my trader for 4,200 and placed back for resale for 10,000. Since others in the Bazaar have seen GVDs for 10,000 - they aren't willing to sell their Haze Panther Eyes for less than 4,000, and they have them on their vendors at 4,500.

Doesn't bother me too much. At 4,500 per haze panther eye, I'm not interested in making GVDs. You get about a 5/7 make rate at 250, so they "cost" 6720 to make (with 4800 in supplies).

So, here's my current GVD offer: I'll make any GVD combine attempt for you when you intend to keep the GVD for personal use. Your odds of getting a GVD from a single set of materials are about 70%. In return for a GVD combine, I'd prefer that you collect two sets of materials, or at least ATTEMPT to get a second Haze Panther Eye. If you can't; if the Haze Panthers hate you, then my offer is still good for those people who can't afford anything but one attempt at the parts. Poor, coinless people without invisibility devices are free not to tip. Rich people with overflowing banks may donate extra parts if they wish.

[I'll also be buying Haze Panther Eyes for 1500 in an attempt to bring the price on GVDs back to 3-4k.]

I have a similar offer for Elemental Bowcams: I'll combine your elemental bowcams (which seem to have a 90-95% make rate) in exchange either free/tips if you're making your own bows for personal use, or for a small percentage of your cams (10% or so) if you're making them for resale.

This isn't a plea for skill points. I'm 244 with a 10% Robe and my Magelo is verified. The last 6 points aren't going to be gained by half a dozen GVD combines, and they're completely useless to me except for vanity. (244+10%<255)

While I'm griping on the bazaar, I'd like to thank the unguilded anonymous guy who purchased the Tome of Winds Wisdom for 1cp from our bank trader this week.

I don't mind, honestly, the 7 or 8k I was going to sell it for is a drop in the bucket to the guildbank, and hey, I was the one who fucked up (leaving it at a price to transfer it between mules while /traders = 500), but it just continues to reinforce what an absolute collection of shitbags the bazaar is full of.

I really dont understand how he's a shitbag.. you set the price for it and he bought it.
If you want to transfer items you can use shared bank space, or you can give the item directly to the person if its another account!
grats~

I agree with Majiolis. I'm not sure how you can blame anyone else for your risky maneuver. With so many other mechanisms to transfer/trade items, that has got to be the one with the highest chance of getting screwed on. *shrug

ps. I look forward to taking you up on your previous offer however ;-)

Bolinworrior bought a 1cp item from me. It was only worth maybe 3k before PoP destroyed the economy, but I'd like to kick him in the nuts from behind just or the satisfaction. :)

There's tons of people out there looking to buy low and sell high, more power to em I guess. My personal favorite was when a friend priced a Jade Reaver at like 10p by accident a while back. It went fast for sure.

As far as GVDs go I don't see why 10k is such an unreasonable price. Its an amazing utility item for the "lesser" ;p classes that can't invis...requiring a suckass farm to get a component (eye)....(successfully) combined by someone who was determined (crazy) enough to GM a pita skill like Tinkering.

Paying 4500 or so per eye in bazaar is silly though. But if someone can't (won't in most cases) go farm it then they gotta deal with the cards they dealt themself. Unreasonably high prices on tradeskill components in the bazaar exist because people are either too lazy to farm their own stuff or just would rather buy it and save time. Don't like the price? Go farm it, simple as that.

Good luck bringing the price on GVDs down to where you believe they should be. As is the same with any valuable top end tradeskill item there just won't be enough of them around to flood the market anytime soon.

Hats off to you 'max for helping out, kinda nice to see that old tradeskill spirit still alive though )

With so many other mechanisms to transfer/trade items, that has got to be the one with the highest chance of getting screwed on.I had actually already transferred one for 1cp. When I restocked the banker, he picked one up again. I screwed up, I admit it, but I refuse to admit that the person picking up the 1cp item thought they were just "getting a good deal."

They knew they were fucking me over.

Oh well, in semi-related news, I got a (useless) skillpoint doing someone elses cams. I wonder how much they'll sell the bows for...

10k for a GVD? I wonder how many insta-cast cloudy potions I can buy for that?... About 900?..

I never had much money in EQ, but I was always content with what I had. Most of the items I was proud of were no-drop. That is something I liked about the game... it was actually hard to get cash. Sure, there were cash camps, but that was boring and took a lot of patience.

Now I play SWG (for the time being... starting to run out of things to do). The funny thing about SWG is, in a day's work I could afford virtually anything in the game. I've always been a soloer / crafter. The best solo class in SWG is a CH. CH's just send in their pet to tank and shoot from the background, very seldom stealing agro, no matter how much damage you do. I solo missions on Endor for 25,000 credits a pop. In an hour I could have 100-150,000 credits, depending on how well the missions go. On top of that I'm getting 3000-4000 weapon exp per thing that I kill, and 300 CH exp per animal I have out (I have 2 pets out usually). The weapon I'm using now cost 15,000 credits (got it cheap from a friend... worth like 50,000)... the highest end kryat tissue pistols don't go for much more than 250,000.

Thats what SWG lacks... theres nothing that takes a long time to get (other than master elite professions) that you can be really proud of. Everything comes WAY too quickly. Sure, thats great at first... not as much grinding / camping and being bored to death, but you accomplish your goals WAY too fast, which makes the game get boring really fast.

I miss that about EQ... actually feeling proud when I got to 50k plat for my first time. Thats something SWG dosn't have...

There are two things that keep me playing SWG at the moment, 1) The crafting system kicks the crap out of any game's crafting system that I've played and 2) me and my friends use TeamSpeak, which makes the game, and especially PVP, more fun.
