1809 - Abraham Lincoln is born
1909 - NAACP is founded
1915 - Cornerstone for Lincoln Monument is laid in place
2008 - Black man becomes frontrunner in Democratic Presidential Primary

200 years sure has seen a lot of change. Its pretty cool actually. Racism and hatred of someone because they looked different but nothing else always boggled me some and its nice to see the newer younger generations are finally able to shed a lot of that hatred and embrace Obama. Even if you disagree with his policy its hard to not respect him, and African Americans so desperately need role models that aren't rappers or sports figures.

I couldn't agree more. Even if Obama doesn't win this election, I think African Americans should take from this that nothing is out of reach if you apply yourself. I think that Obama could the be face of a new "Civil Rights" movement that could potentially increase the standard of life for many african americans that haven't felt any need to be optimistic in life.

Yo, dawg, why you be hatin on rappers? I'll grab my 9, and shoot you in the fase!

In all seriousness, do you think Al Sharpton, or Jesse Jackson will let racism die? It's been pretty good to them, in the sense that without it, they really don't have jobs. By the way, if they are men of the cloth, where are thier churches? (Rhet.)

Funny, I don't think I've ever heard either ond of those men speak out about Louis Farrakhan, or his statements, but maybe that's just lack of media coverage.....

They are part of one generation which are being dwarfed by the next though Sixee. Every new generation has a clearer view and a few more steps removed from slavery and the civil rights movement.

This thread even existing is great proof that the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Yea he becomes the African American taking the lead over the Euro-American, I think I'll start referencing to myself as a Euro-American more often. Never can nor will understand that after 200 years, we still catogorize black americans as African-Americans. Isn't he mut of sorts and of the other 50%, would be considered white?
