Yes, the phone is cool, but I was drooling more over the Dell quad-core pute,
which is on one of the side-bar links.

I am Cingualr, and I need a new phone this year... but I'm not a fan of Apple lol. To be honest, its features are awesome, but I doubt I would use them enough to justify the cost.
I have a SmartPhone right now with Windows Mobile. It has some really cool features, but to be honest, all I really use is the phone and text messaging. After spending $350 for this phone and still needing to get a replacement after 2 years, I've decided that I am not the kind of person that needs a portable media center in my pocket. I just need to be reachable and *any* phone will grant me that. Theres a select few other features that I would look for, but playing music and movies and photo browsing, while pretty damn spiffy, aren't that big of selling points to me.
On top of that, one very imporant factor on a phone for me is size and weight. As companies are packing more and more features into their "phones" they seem to be getting away from the 'small' concept, in favor of bigger screens. I have my phone with me 24 / 7, and unless I'm asleep, its on my person. I don't want something that is large or heavy. I don't want to know its there unless its ringing. If that is an average sized man's hand in those pictures, the iPhone is a bit big for my taste (there's probably a reason they decided to use a man's hand instead of a woman's)
Also, while I do like the look and feel of Apple's products, I hate their means of interfacing with their devices.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure its an amazing product. And if you're the kind of person who is going to make use of all of those spiffy features on a regular basis and have some disposable income, good for you. It just not quite for me.
Now... if mobile broadband was available in my area, and on this phone (haven't looked into it yet), for a reasonable price, I might consider it. Even then, I would probably wait for a non-apple competitor to come out with theirs for cheaper and minus the Apple software interface.

Personally, I just want it because I think it would revolutionize drunk dialing. The controls on my RAZR are far too difficult to deal with over .2 BAC.

The phone... not so much. If it cost half as much, I might be interested, but I'm not one that needs to do 5000 things on my cellphone (heck, it's lying uncharged under my bed half the time). I've had to replace Faervas' drool bucket twice, on the other hand, although he agrees it's predictably overpriced as well.

I'd personally rather have the technological advancements of cellular phones to be one of dropped calls and network strength more so than the ability to do things my computer does. The phones are too tiny to really enjoy the other features like internet browsing and all of that, its much easier to simply do all that on a laptop - but I'd love to be able to talk on the phone without it crapping out all the time.
Living in Europe I LOVED how all the carriers shared their network. I can't remember a single time over the 9 months where I found myself somewhere I couldn't make a call anywhere in eastern Europe, even far out on the Grecian islands. I'm sure it happened now and again, but nothing like the troubles I have here.

I've never had a dropped call that didn't involve a remote and predictably bad coverage area.
In the event I ever need to replace my razr I can see getting an iPhone, but $500 for a phone when I rarely use the features of the one I have is too much for vanity. I will, of course, be trying to get the company to spring for one instead of a Crackberry.
The big drawback I see is battery life. I can easily see using more talk time, plus email time, plus audio playback time than it can do between nightly recharges.

Seriously? God, I have trouble all over the place. And not just me, but my co-workers on different companies (verizon, cingular, etc.) though we'll all have different reception at different areas. My phone is Verizon, there's only 2 places in my house it works (living room and bedroom right at the window) and had troubles in my old apartment building in the bedroom but not the hallways or the living room. Maybe its just the Philadelphia to Richmond corridor.

/nod this is very true
I have Verizon; have had them for many years without issue. We have a friends and family thing with Leah's parents, myself, Leah, and the teenager. The teenager gets all the handmedown phones and hers will have some reception troubles in remote areas whereas mine does not. By reception I'm talking about the number of bars.

Sometimes just taking the phone in and getting its software inside updated might help. They did that once for me, worked for a bit but then I finally threw it out the window when it dropped my calls again for the upteenth time. (I was really looking for a reason to get a new phone....hehehe ) http://www.ayonae.ro/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Same thing the wife and I encountered. I got her last phone that works in a particular area in northern Wisconsin, she gets a new phone with all the latest and greatest whistles and bells...using the exact same service and her phone doesnt work but mine does sitting in the exact same spot.
Strange.

I agree that the phone makes a huge difference. I have been with Sprint for over 8 years and seldom have I had problems with dropped calls except in fringe areas. I have had some issues with fade out and until I got my new razor style phone. I'm very happy with it and have not had the issues I experienced in the past.
