What other shows would you like us to host for those without Tivo? We'll add more shows to host, until we are served with a cease and desist letter :devil
Some suggestions:
* Desperate Housewives (I'm going to get it from our female members ^_^)
* Alias (Jennifer Garner, 'nuff said)
* Simpsons
* Family Guy

Well, I'm already the king of TiVo - I run a Media Center 2005 machine with a dual-tuner Hauppauge and an ATI HD tuner, for full-on-Tri-Tuner action, so, on a night like tonight when I'm flipping back and forth between the Suns game and the Diamondbacks game, I still end up with a HD recording of House, and I still catch my nightly dose of whatever was on the other tuner.
That said, if you're just looking to re-broadcast BROADCAST television, I'd suggest The Shield for starters. FX is only 4 episodes into the season while most of the rest of television is wrapping up the season. Some shows (West Wing, for example) already ended their run, and the "non-stop season" of 24 is on hour 17 or so. The rest of the FX lineup will be starting soon too -- Nip/Tuck, and then, later, Rescue Me. It'd be a fair chance to catch people up on those.
Family Guy goes back into new episodes in a month, but, none of us are missing an antenna, and it makes for good compression anyway - it'll be everwhere. I suppose the same could be said for the other "swim" titles, but I'd rather see Aqua Teen or something else I don't get on TBS, Fox, and CN, like I do with Family Guy.
Similar short-run dramas, like ESPN's Tilt would be good. Of course, last year's ESPN show, Playmakers, was better - feel free to re-host that. Everyone should have seen it. Goddamned ABC and their NFL deal caused it to go away :(
I've got an interesting library of niche stuff if you're looking to re-host things. Right now, all I'm doing is recording assloads of Whose Line so I can fast-forward to Scenes From a Hat, World's Worst, Props, Press Conference, and Questions games.
In an unrelated note, I hate when they "cheat" on questions. -- Wouldn't you think it was odd if I made a rhetorical statement?"
Let me know when you want 80 gigs of The Shield mailed to you and a copy of a good converter :)

The original British version of Whose Line Is It Anyway would be great, if someone can find a station that shows it reliably. (Once in a while Comedy Central will show a few episodes back to back, typically at either 2 AM or 2 PM, but I've had trouble predicting which days they will do this.)

Do it for Fildien. Do it for all of us. The new BatGal is excellent.
I'd add Lost, probably the best show on right now, and one that is much better when viewed sequentially. Also, I'm liking Eyes, a new, upbeat detective show sown with wry humor and snappy dialogue (it follows Lost and Alias on ABC Wednesdays).

I've got Tivo handling everything I watch, but I'd recommend 24, House, The Shield, Lost, Alias, and Eyes.
I didn't see anyone mention House yet. It's really pretty good.

Ok what the heck is Lost, the shield, and eyes? I must not watch enough TV or I watch too much HBO when I do watch TV b/c I have never heard of these shows.

Malse and I spent about half a night making the sounds that teacher did in the beginning of the pilot, after watching it drunk before going out. QUACK!
Ok what the heck is Lost, the shield, and eyes?
Lost: Plane crash on island. Island is funky. Lots of flashbacks by individual people, showing more and more interconnection between them that they don't know about. No one's really figured out if it's all just a dream, a military experiment, etc.
The Shield: Good cop, bad cop, and worse cop. Hard to explain. Say the Sopranos meets TJ Hooker. Or something like that. It's good.
Eyes: Crime/mystery/comedy about a PI firm. I've only seen one, but it was funny.
I don't think Lost would be that good without watching the whole season in order. The Shield, you'd almost need to watch the first three.

House is a good show, but I never seem to remember to watch it :( , and 24 is pretty kick ass

Fast forward through season three of The Shield. It's weak. One and two were awesome. Four seems like it's getting pretty good though.

Only shows worth watching: Penn & Teller: Bullshit! (Showtime), Battlestar Galactica (Sci-Fi), South Park (Comedy Central) and American Chopper (Discover?).
Everything else is just fluff.

Mention of Penn & Teller's Bullshit! (great show) reminds me that there is a lot of good HOB/Showtime stuff that those of us without might like to check out. I've heard good things about Dead Like Me, Six Feet Under, and Carnivale, for instance (the latter particularly piques my interest).

Do we have any European members on to TiVo and host the new episodes of Dr. Who? That's something I wouldn't mind having easy access to.
Palimax,
Do you have the capability to record HD off of cable or are you just pulling it off of an antenna?

(the new) Battlestar Galactica!
Yes! This show is awesome. If you can do the miniseries leadin to the series that would be especially fabulous. My TV tolerance is very limited, but I am hooked on this show; it's convoluted, sexy, and I give it mad props for putting women in integral/pivotal roles in the story :)...
I also wouldn't mind seeing the BBC version of 'The Office', now being done in a fairly lame US version; and the British 'Whose Line is it Anyway' is fun too...

Nydia

BG is good, and they usually have some decent shows on the Sci-fi channel. South Park/Comedy channel is good, and adult swim shows are usually decent...
I stopped watching the mainstream shows years ago, (NBC,ABC, ect)
The history and discovery channels are great when they have an interesting subject...
The Cartoon/show (?) Drawn together is pretty good so far...

New season starts April 25th.

Fast forward through season three of The Shield. It's weak. One and two were awesome. Four seems like it's getting pretty good though.Season 3 is pretty important to understand where all of the characters are in terms of what's going on in the show. The whole disintegration of the Strike Team is important. It's missing some *great* episodes, but only if you compare it to the rest of the seasons. They're all still great compared to the rest of TV :)

Season 3 of The Shield was weak? Good lord. It stretched here and there, but putting Vick under pressure to figure out ways out of jams is what the show is about.
If anyone knows where I can access, say, the last 3 episodes of season 3, I'd appreciate knowing. I think somehow my Tivo missed them. When season 4 started, I didn't know about the strike team breaking up, the DA's problem with the detectives, etc. I dunno if the name of the show changed slightly and caused Tivo to miss it or what. I've since moved to Comcast to get high def.
I think BattleStar Galactica starts replaying this Friday, right? Several friends have recommended it and I'm gonna try to catch the whole series and the initial movie if I can .

Yea this is the type of thing I wish they'd do in miniseries format. I can't really imagine them going for more than a season with this, but then again I said the same thing about Numb3rs only with episodes

What's funny is that since i haven't been watching the new shows, i've been buying dvd's of the old ones (married with children, futurama, the family guy, ILC, ect;) Probably in a few years once the new shows are dead, i'll watch them i guess on reruns...hehe
Eyes has been really good so far. Lost seems to be floundering, it's just a ceaseless barage of half-hints in every direction, but it's still an entertaining show. Venture Bros. is probably the best show, cartoon or not, that I've seen in the past five years.
Palimax Sceleris
04-16-2005, 04:47 AM
I could probably go look it up, but have they made their announcement on if Venture Brothers is going to be back?
Patrick Wharburton is an AWESOME Brock.
As an aside, I never realized how tight-knit the mainstream cartoon voice community is. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting Phil Lamar.
Yep, it's been picked up for another season. Haven't heard when they'll start airing them though. Jackson Publick's site at http://www.livejournal.com/~jacksonpublick/ is about the only semi-often updated site with reliable info.
Not sure if it is being aired anywhere currently, but if any episodes of 'The Paul Hogan Show' could be tracked down and hosted, it would be great. It was also shown in Britain under the name 'Paul Hogan's England'.

So, uh, The Shield...
I just got through with tonight's episode on the 'ol Media Center, and...Jebus H. Christ on a pogo-stick, I have no fucking clue what I'm going to do for 7 days waiting for the next episode. I swear to all that is sacred in this world that if the remaining 8 or so episodes were on tonight, I wouldn't sleep a wink before I went to work with a glassy-eyed look on my face.
Best show on TV, ever.
And if this week was good, next week's trailers were stunning. Fuck 24 with their David Palmer guest shot next week; it's all about The Sheild next week.
Sanchek
04-20-2005, 10:24 AM
Yeah, the last two or three episodes of the Shield have really been turning it around. I was worried at the start of the season, but it's getting good now.
I was looking on IMDB a few weeks ago, and I think David Palmer's on all the rest of the 24 episodes this season. So, I it'll probably be more than a one off guest shot.
