Hey all,

My Dad bought a PC today and as an experiment (and because a previous monitor we own is buggered) we decided to hook it up via an S-Video cable to our Philips TV instead.

It works reasonably well except for one problem, the picture is blurred to Hell and back. I'm not actually sure that I'm typing what I should be...

Anyway, I know that it's common for TVs to be dodgy monitors as far as the technology goes, but this is a brand new TV, runs at 100hz with resolutions higher than my monitor back home and still looks like a drunk man peeing against himself.

My question, for those of you who have experience with these sorts of things, is are there any other ways to connect a PC to a TV without using ridiculously overpriced adapters? Maybe a S-Video to Scart or typical video card port to Scart/whatever cable? It's difficult to read text of any kind even when i tinker with the font sizes, etc. Reading Penny-Arcade is difficult, but reading Real Life Comics is impossible, it looks like Klingon!

Any advice you guys could throw my way would be awesome,

Thanks in advance folks.

What kind of TV is it?

Maybe the video card is expecting the TV to run at...what is it, 352x480 interlaced? NTSC uses 525 lines (480 visible) in any case.

It's a Philips PH28W9308

As for the resolution thing, I've tried multiple resolutions on my video card if that's what you meant, but they dont seem to make any difference.

Windows 98,
GeForce 4 MX440

Gonna try Windows XP to see if it makes a difference.

Just a few days ago I hooked up my computer to my big screen for a LAN party and experienced a similar problen. My friend gave me a program that solved it if your interested. Pretty sure it was free, PM me if you want me to find out.

Get a bigger TV.

I play EQ on my 61 inch. I can see everything well enough to raid.

Not all of us are on big enough salaries to afford 61 inch televisions :)

A few things that will affect quality:

1) Chipset that is used to convert VGA to TV Output on the video card (or the in-line converter you might be using)
2) TV picture quality
3) TV picture size

I don't know how much a piece of software is going to help, but go ahead and try it out =). Here's a pretty good one I fiddled around with back when I was experimenting with TV output...TV Tool (http://tvtool.info/index_e.htm).
