On February 25, an Iranian drone was shot down 60 miles northeast of Baghdad by the U.S. It had been tracked in Iraqi airspace for 1 hour and 10 minutes.
It was only confirmed on Monday that this event occurred. Interesting how much goes on that we are not kept abreast of, in the mid-east.
Any thoughts?

These days everybody has them. Slap a radio control and video camera to an ultralight aircraft and you have a UAV.
I wonder what the Iranians were watching?

You can slap it on one of those hobby aircraft...it's all about the transmitter.

Hell I had one years ago as a kid so I guess that equates Iran to a kid with toys and they got their hands smacked for flying it into the neighbors sat dish!

It is speculated that the drone might have been programmed for surveillance of the Camp Ashraf area, where 3500 followers of the dissident Peoples Mujahideen of Iran organization are based. The camp is roughly 57 miles northeast of Baghdad.
This event apparently has caused something of a flap with the Iraqi government as well, as they were not consulted but only told after the incident when they could have no affect on the situation.

So I guess the War on Terror only applies to western nations... Iran monitors terrorists and we shoot em down!

No Iran violated another countries airspace and their drone got its just dues just like if we did the same and if the Iranians shot it down...it happens probably more than we think...it's a ridiculous attempt at news deflection by the corporate media. The real question is why wait so long to have it released as news...I find that odd on the part of the military.

Perhaps because they didn't bring it up to Iraq and realized Iraq would be pissed.
I guarantee you Iraq would not have shot down the Iranian drone if it was identified as Iranian. but alas, if the military didn't know who's it was until they examined the wreckage, you cant blame em.

I heard about this on the net last week I think it was.
As for the bs of Iraq not shooting it down if they knew, ooo scary, it was Iranian that's funny stuff..really.
Back to Rover, it was a military action and tbh there is far too much of our military's actions in the press as is.

When did I imply it would be due to them fearing Iran? I meant they would not shoot it down because they want good relations with Iran. Iran is also one of their biggest trade partners.

The military press handlers knows exactly what they're planning to release and why.

PIOs are far from infalible Malse. "Ali G" proved that when he got into ATF and the Pentagon. That being said, they're all normally on the top of their games and I've seen many shut an interview down promptly if they didn't like the direction that it was headed.
They couldn't keep something like this secret forever, but once they told the Iraqi govt they had to announce it.
