The BBC poll was quoted in a blurb today in the St Paul Pioneer Press, mentioning the annual survey of people in 34 countries. I am digging around trying to find the poll results to link to, but what was stated in the St paul paper was that the negative opinions of the U.S. had decreased from 52% to 47%. Israel, which ranked dead last in 2006, now ranks just above Iran, which was at the bottom with 54% negative opinion. Pakistan ranks third from the bottom with 50% negative.

Keep in mind that these are how the negative influence on the rest of the world by the named country is perceived.

When you're at the bottom, you can only go up!

In total 17,457 citizens in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Egypt, El Salvador, France, Germany, Ghana, Great Britain, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Lebanon, Mexico, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Panama, the Philippines, Portugal, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Turkey, the UAE, and the United States were interviewed face-to-face or by telephone between October 31, 2007 and January 25, 2008. Polling was conducted for the BBC World Service by the international polling firm GlobeScan and its research partners in each country. In 16 of the 34 countries, the sample was limited to major urban areas. Given that country ratings were given by samples of about 500 per country, the margin of error per country ranges from +/-3.4 to 4.6 per cent.

I don't know why they even bother with these polls. 500 people per country with a 5% margin of error, and up to half of the respondents in some countries not even answering? You'd be better off flipping coins.

Yea.

You want accurate polls, have experienced local people do it. Otherwise, its a joke.
