We've heard it from McCain's own brother, the campaign ceased to be John McCain as everyone knew him a long time ago. A number of people on this forum 2 years ago were very Pro-McCain, myself included, but he's so desperate for the win that he's completely out of character.

I have stated my staunch support for him in the past, as well as my disgust for his complete surrender to his ambition for the office to the extent of giving up any semblance of the Maverick with integrity he once was.

I remember being disappointed the first time his campaign fell apart, and we all thought he was out of the running completely. Now he's even driving off die hard fans in Arizona.

Makes you almost wonder if he's throwing the election intentionally.....

Perhaps someone bet against a black President ever being elected, and he's looking to collect?

I've been saying all along that they're just throwing McCain under the bus, to give him his earned shot at the Presidency.

The GOP knows that even if they had reanimated JFK and Elvis to run against the Democrats this election, they probably won't win. Bush has destroyed the party's credibility and popularity, even among many conservatives.

Plus, whoever wins this election is screwed anyway, as the global economy implodes for a few years. It'll take some amazing luck and skill for Obama to win a second term if things don't immediately turn around during his first year.

So, they hold back more viable candidates like Huckabee and Romney (and now Palin?) for the next election, when they have a real chance and may have to fend off Hillary.
