Flipping through the channels last night I found Foxnews reporting Hugo Chavez as saying the big earthquake in Haiti was caused by a US weapon being tested by the US....

really ...sadly I imagine quite a few 3rd world uneducated types will listen to him.

This guy actually that nuts or is he just playing a clever PR game?

We caused the asia tsunami with an underwater nuke too. Most of the deaths were in Muslim nations, that should be enough evidence.

Don't accept USD for your oil? Don't participate in the central banking system? Prepare to be labeled a terrorist and/or dictator!

That comment is almost predictable from Chavez. What a dope.

Apparently it works even when disproved. Yay...

So it came from his state run newspaper instead of him eh? Then he is cagier than I'd given him credit for.

This is equivalent to someone on FOX quoting World Nut Daily about 9/11 conspiracies and it getting attributed to Ronald Reagan by the BBC.

Though, for the sake of crazy discussion, it's worth noting that man-made manipulation of the Earth is hardly theory or conspiracy. About a century ago, Tesla used the entire Earth as a medium to amplify harmonic pulses of voltage to the point that each reflected wave caused arcs up to 135ft in the air.

That certainly wouldn't have caused an earthquake, but the theory is that if it had happened today then it would have had an EMP effect on any electronics connected to ground on his side or wherever the pulses were bouncing off of. Neat.

Chavez has his media in a vice. Six regime-critical TV-stations have recently been shut down with the use of trumped up charges. He can probably get whatever kookball message he wants out into the ether.

I swear you guys. I'm no fan of Chavez, but how does the incorrect attribution of a quote by a European news agency of some kook in Venezuelan TV quoting from a Russian conspiracy theorist somehow mean Chavez is controlling his media?

It doesn't. I was referring to another source, which is unfortunately in Swedish. It can be found here:
http://www.dn.se/nyheter/varlden/chavezkritisk-tv-slutar-sanda-efter-forbud-1.1032291
And cites TT-Reuters as its source.

cites TT-Reuters as its source.

That's the problem. All the "legitimate" sources keep jumping on these things and parroting inaccurate information. No different than the absurdly resilient "fact" that Ahmadinejad said he wanted to wipe Israel from the face of the Earth.

Kook on VIVE in Venezuela posts quackery about earthquake weapon as a blog response -> mentioned by someone on tv -> reported by Spanish newspaper as real news -> referenced by Reuters -> quoted by everyone else.

Zero investigation. No sanity checking. This is why journalism is a joke degree.

Wait, I thought Haiti's government was non Muslim. Why would we want to cause havoc there?

Oh wait, its a bunch of 'brown people', so that's why we cause the earthquake. Nevermind....

This is equivalent to someone on FOX quoting World Nut Daily about 9/11 conspiracies and it getting attributed to Ronald Reagan by the BBC. In a side note, fox and world news daily are 2 of the only 5 "news" agencies allowed to report from the teabagger convention.
we have approved the following press organizations:
Fox News
Breitbart.com
Townhall.com
The Wall Street Journal
World Net Daily
