The problem is vehicles also. of the 6 people who want to go. I have a truck, 2 dont have cars, 1 has a corvette, and the last has a car that i wouldnt trust to get out of the county.

Anyone ever done the rent a RV type thing? Someone mentioned that to us.

Dear Greystone:
Gas is relatively cheap right now, so the rent an RV/van might be a good option - is your truck the full-sized variety that can pull a pop-up? If so, those are much less expensive than renting the motorized version and you're already comfortable with what you'll be driving. The downside is the guys up front in the truck can't visit with the guys in the back if it's a long drive....
You're also getting to the end of the winter 'snowbird' season, so rates at RV parks will be down and vacancies much easier to find than they are in high season. You're in Central Florida, right? How far are you looking to drive? If you want a change of pace and a break from humidity, the mountains of Northeast Georgia are 8 hours away from you, the Keys about the same in the opposite direction...
If you're looking to travel a greater distance than that (or are going to drive around a lot instead of going someplace and parking the RV), I recommend renting a full-sized car/van instead of an RV and staying in hotels - prices are way down due to the recession and will likely be cheaper (and less of a hassle) than RV rental + gas + resort fees.
Best of luck and let us know how it goes!
Regards,
Nydia
By the way, speaking of 'travelling in style', I made a round trip last summer from San Antonio to Panama City and back up through Alabama and around on I-20 back with two heavyset guys, their luggage, and a wheelchair, all crammed into a VW New Beetle, I'll try to post you a pic, we had a great time (and a spacious hotel room)... ;)

If a group of my friends wanted to roadtrip I'd definitely think an R/V would be the way to go. That or rent some honking SUV.

Im 325, my buddy is pushing 400.....the engine would die.
The full size van thing might work.....and towing the pop-up is a good idea, but i would have to do all the driving cause i wouldnt trust anyone with my new truck and a big trailer.

It is against the law to travel in a trailer as it is being pulled....\
Renting an RV is a fantastic idea....

Rent an RV is a great Idea...comfortable etc...the only issue you might have is at those weights someone might get stuck in a bathroom or might not be able to get in which would create a whole other issue with regards to public health.
Ask Osg as he lives in a trailer and has probably been stuck in his bathroom before.

I would love to have been a fly in that Beetle Nydia, lol.
And I also back the idea of renting an R/V, or a full size van with hotel/motel being the way to go for sleeping and showers.
And lastly, we really do not need to do the silly shit-shots at folks in every thread, do we?

The Bahamas are real close and bet you can get a boat charter cheap these days. check the one's around Stuart/Port St. Lucie area. 2 hour drive south a few hours on a boat and Bam! your in a another country. Air charters there are reasonable as well.
If your hell bent on a redneck road trip you can't go wrong with the Keys. Key Largo has some easy camping spots and John penekampe state park is bad assed. rent the boat and venture out to the reef for some great Snorkling fun. it's OK when you come face to face with a 5 FT. Barracuda to piss your pants
