'He said Venezuela would pursue new Russian arms deals "because the North American empire... has plans to invade Venezuela, to disarm Venezuela".'
- This guy is off his nut.

Haha, the pic in that link is awesome. Putin looks like Vlad Dracul about to dine.
While Chavez is definately off his rocker. Having Bush/Cheney living on top of you and i dunno, calling for your assasination may have something to do with it.

I can definitely see why an oil-rich, non-friendly country in our hemisphere would be worried about our imperial tendencies.

Hmm, sure would be more cost effective than going to the Middle East to start a fight.
Wonder why it hasn't been done before?

Anyway, hope Chavez gets his money's worth from the Russian military tech. Noone else does.

Odds are Chavez isn't so worried about our expansionist plans as he is about his own expansionist dreams.

Russia will take their money and laugh at them. Nobody is going to violate the Monroe Doctrine.
I hope he spends a lot of money on really high tech stuff. That would be awesome. His days are numbered there at this point as his act is wearing pretty thin.

Venezuela's president said he had felt "strong human warmth" during the meeting with his Russian counterpart, adding that "personal chemistry immediately appeared between us".

Maybe that's a secret message for saying that he loves the translator who was standing between them.

Hmmm, Chavez nationalized the oil industry, essentially giving himself (the government) control of companies once heavily invested by foreign companies.
Hmmm, the Venezuelan military commanders rebuffed Chavez in his attempts to insert socialist language into the simple act of saluting the flag.
Hmmm, the people rebuffed Chavez' attempts to make himself a permanent President, by rewriting the Constitution.
Inviting Russian troops onto Venezuelan soil may have more to do with the plan to be another Castro or Mugabe than with any of the fanciful "threats" Chavez loves to use to promote nationalism. He has been shown via national votes by his people and by a show of solidarity by his military commanders that he is not going to be able to do as he pleases without challenge. Let's see how long it takes for the Russian troops to become his personal guard, and then we will know something more devious is afoot.

Well, at least when we invade there...
1. The chicks are hotter
2. No sand in my ass (except on the beaches but that's more the marine corps territory)
3. Can we say leave in Jamaica?
