Something our vets should be aware (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060522/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/veterans_disk_1) of.
What are the odds that burglars would hit at the exact time this guy took their data home with him? Suspicous.

The odds are better for being the only winner in a $200,000,000 powerball drawing.

I received a letter today from the Department of Veteran Affairs informing me that the data was stolen and what steps I should take to protect myself now.

Received my letter Saturday.
I was discharged in 1971, but used my GI Home Loan in '86, which makes my file active in the time span covered.

Has anyone read anything about the employee who took the data home in the first place? Any action taken against him? The status of the investigation?

He was fired. Now there will be a 4 year long investigation by a government oversight committee. Yet another feather in the caps of some useless politicians....
