Ok, let me first say that I'm a pretty big fan of Takashi Miike (http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0586281/). I've seen a couple of his films, and I'm not afraid of the shock he packs into some of them. I own a couple of his films, including Dead or Alive (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0221111/) (which was "ok") and Audition (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0235198/), which might be his best film.
Ok, let me say, Visitor-Q (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0290329/) had me baffled. I just... ...didn't get this one. Once I got past the incest, rape, lactation, necrophilia, domestic abuse, murder, dismemberment, heroin, and prostitution, I was left... ...not getting it.
*spoilers - sorta - ahead*
So, after opening with him paying his wayward daughter for sex, and then inviting the stranger who beat him over the head with a rock (twice!) home to live with his abused-by-their-son (just not in the face!) trick-turning heroin-addicted wife, he then manages to rape and kill his producer, whom he takes home to defile and dismember with his wife who's recently discovered the joys of exibhitionist lactation. All the while, the son is being abused by his class-mates, which, thankfully his family kills with a tool-set in the front yard - which they dismember and clean up before the daughter returns home (beaten by the stranger!) so she can suckle at mom's breasts with dad. *cue closing credits*
Would someone with a keener sense of what the fuck is going on in Japanese cinema explain this movie to me? Why does the son announce to the stranger that he's going to start studying for his entrance exams while LAYING IN A GIANT PUDDLE OF HIS MOTHER'S BREAST MILK!
Ok, well, I'm still holding out hope for Ichi the Killer (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0296042/).
Edited to fix links.
