AP and UPI reported that after the rioting in Paris, the French government
today raised its terror alert level from RUN, to HIDE on their four level
danger scale. The two higher French danger levels are Surrender and
Collaborate. The rise was precipitated by a fire yesterday, which destroyed
France's white flag factory, effectively paralyzing their military
according
to informed sources.

On another front:

President Bush has authorized the Joint Chiefs to begin drawing up a
battle plan to pull France's ass out of the fire again. Facing an
apparent overwhelming force of up to 400 pissed off teenagers Mr. Bush
doubts France's ability to hold off the little pissants. "Hell, if the
last two world wars are any indication, I would expect France to
surrender any day now", said Bush.

Joint Chiefs head, Gen. Peter Pace, warned the President that it might
be necessary to send up to 5 marines to get things under control. The
general admitted that 5 marines may be overkill but he wanted to get
this thing under control within 24 hours of arriving on scene. He stated
he was having a hard time finding even one marine to help those
ungrateful bastards out for a third time but thought that he could
persuade a few women marines to do the job before they went on pregnancy
leave.

President Bush asked Gen. Pace to get our marines out of there as soon
as possible after order was restored. He also reminded Gen. Pace to make
sure the marines did not take soap, razors, or deodorant with them. The
least they stand out the better.

This is a joke, don't get your French panties in a twist over it.

I wonder what you'd have said if someone from France posted a similar joke about us during 9/11. It's funny, but seems awfully inappropriate right now.

Hmm, I guess I akin this a lot more to the Rodney King riots than I do the acts of terrorists that caused the deaths of thousands of people.

None-the-less, I found it funny.

Overstating it just a bit?

At least this comment had some thought behind it. Fuck you nonetheless. :)

On Wednesday night, the number of vehicles burned dropped to 482 from 617 the previous night. At the height of the violence last weekend, rioters torched nearly 3,000 cars in two nights. The number of incidents has dropped every night since then. Police have arrested more than 3,000 people during the violence. Some 364 people, including 73 minors, have been convicted and jailed, the justice minister said.

The rioting started Oct. 27 in the northeastern suburbs of Paris but has spread and claimed its first victim late Sunday or early Monday: a 61-year-old beaten by an attacker while trying to extinguish a trash-can fire.

As police reported his death, they said unrest has fanned out to 300 towns. The violence occurs at night, mostly in tough suburbs, and targets police and property, with arsonists torching thousands of cars and scores of buildings.

Still, the nation's tourism minister, in an interview Monday with The Associated Press, said he felt that the international media was exaggerating the violence.

"You get the impression that France is awash with flames and blood, which is not at all the case," said the minister, Leon Bertrand. "You cannot deny the images, but there are images and images."

Let's not compare 9/11 to a little civil outbreak in France. 1 Casualty compared to thousands. Lighten up, unbunch your french pantaloons.

Not overstating it, just comparing it to recent events where some people in the rest of the world made jokes at our misfortune and we got really upset about it. Forget the magnitude. It's the thought that counts.

I found it funny..... mainly because all humor is based on a sliver of truth.... The French hold themselves to so higher evolved plane of existance than the US.... yet this kind of unrest happens even to them *gasp*....

I thought the joke was about Gen. Peter Pace thinking 5 pregnant marines could placate a few hundreds of teenagers while a full army of them couldn't a few thousands of Iraqis. :)
